Hi, I'm a new member with a 2006Tacoma 2wd 4cyl 5 lug longed. I'd like to k ow if I can move my rear leafs from under my axle to over the axle to lif the rear. Add a leaf hasn't given me the height I want but did make it too stiff riding. Thanks

Hello and welcome to the Tacomaworld. There’s many subjects and discussions about this by just going to the search button and typing your subject. But to save you some time, are you just doing this for the lift or ride quality? If both it is better to just get new leaf packs. Going from SOA to SUA is not as easy. You would need to replace your shocks and hangers. The leafs will also need to be longer.

Thankyou Louie ! I have a full length heavy metal sliding tool box in my bed. I also put larger tires and wheels and lifted the front with bolt on spacers . Oil added helper springs to Rais the rear which helped but didn't level it. So I added a leaf and realized because the the axle was over the leaf, I didn't get fill advertised lift because you actually have to subtract the thickness of the leaf. So now the back is still low and it's completely stiff. I really need about 3 inch lift above stock. So you're saying I can get a leaf pack that will achieve this without other mods ?

If the suspension is OEM, the leafs should already be on top of the axle.

The thing you're lookingf for is called a "spring over axle" (SOA) setup, you have a Spring Under Axle right now. There might be kits for it, but if I remmeber right you have to cut off the old spring perches and weld new ones to the other side of the axle. Probably would have to do shock mounts too, but those are relatively easy.

Oh thats neat, didnt know that.

But still, wouldn't putting the leafs under the axle lower the truck unless you went with waaaay taller springs?

I feel like it would be much easier to just buy a bigger SOA leaf pack. Way less labor involved than trying to switch side of the axle.

Edit: never mind I see the issue lmfao im retarded.

Double edit: Just buy taller SUA springs.

Ya, it's kinda confusing. Not sure of the theory behind sua. In the old days we used to put longer shackles on leaf spring cars to raise them. I haven't seen any such kits.

I mean, SUA gives you more wheel travel without crazy amounts of lift when setup properly.
