I've heard of those places but never tried one. They quoted a minimum of $40 for that job. a roll of PETG would run me $25 delivered.

Thanks guys, yeah, I'm thinking rivnuts to replace the captured ones and an aftermarket skid with an access door. It's only going to save money in the long run, right?

As for the alignment, I'll do some front end checking. About to roll over 150k so something could be loose for sure.

    So does mine.

But I turned around and pushed it over with my front bumper, than burned it.

For sure! It's definitely worth taking a good look at ball joints, tie rods, bushings, etc. Check the CV's, too! I waited until around 240K miles on my last 4Runner to check those, and they had some significant play in them.

Depending on where you live there might be an actual store you can just go to for printing.
I know in the Twin Cities there a couple different 3d printer shops.

Operation "Rock Slider Top Plate Removal" has begun! :D

I decided to get rid of the top plates because they mostly just create a spot for debris to collect, and create rust. They add no benefit as a step, but, they do deflect gravel that gets kicked up by the front tires.

I planned on getting a set of nice sawhorses, but I got ambitious after work today and all I had handy were ladders.

The easy part on this one is done. Now, I need to grind the rest of the welds off, clean up the rust, and prime and paint. I suspect this is going to be a significant amount of work.

Now; what to do with the old top plates?

Sometimes I don't think Makita gets the respect they deserve. I have always considered them one of the top options for cordless tools. One thing they seem to do better than anyone is making compact, lightweight, comfortable tools that still have some balls.

Now, if that had been a Milwaukee M18 high torque impact lurking in the tall grass, I think we'd be seeing some purple tools appearing on shelves in a few months.

Oh there will be some mods all right
I appreciate the thought but I don't have any specialty stores around me whatsoever. All the time I am so jealous of people on the forums that rattle off a long ass list of specialty shops. "Oh here, I'm just going to run some errands real quick. First I need to stop by my Toyota specific off-road shop, then I will stop by my driveline shop real quick to pick up a drive shaft, and lastly I'll head over to my computer shop to get myself a graphics card." Damnit.

But large majority of the people with lots of shops around can't just hop on a fire road that lead to a secluded lake to watch the turtles.

The only Toyota specific off-road shop i am aware of anywhere near Wisconsin went out of business. You're not missing out on much.

Edit: You're not missing anything. Unless you enjoy sitting in traffic. :notsure:

I mean, everyone likes to complain right? No, you are correct, I am definitely blessed to live where I do even if once in awhile I do get frustrated with the weather and or businesses available. Within 10 mi of my house I have probably pretty close to 10 different places I can put a kayak in and within 30 miles not only is there an obscene amount of lakes but there's lots of public land as well

Honestly, I'm pretty lucky and happy to be where I am. I have two lakes within 5 minutes of me. I live on a dead end where there's more farm fields than there are houses. And, I'm only 15 minutes from Oconomowoc and Jefferson, which is plenty of excitement for me. :)
