Traded my tacoma in last thursday. I bought it as a used cpo in '12 with only 24k miles on it. As of trade in it only had 126k miles on it, very well maintained. No accidents, dents, some minor scratches. The big bonus was it had the frame replaced end of '19. Here that would add real value to a potential buyer. Didn't work out that way. Where I'm kinda pissed is when negotiating my new car ('22 lexus rx350 f sport, so still in a toyota) the dealer comes and says carfax says its been in an accident. They show me and I see the date and that it was at the dealer and try to explain the frame replacement. They didn't care, as far as they can tell it's been in an accident. Not going to drag this out and cry about it, I'm loving my new ride, but wondering how much I lost in value and who reported to carfax - the dealer or Toyota? Just thought people here should be aware of this because it was a surprise kick in the nuts for me. To bad they can't enter it as some kind of warranty replacement for defective part or something. Oh well.
    New ride pic.

have to be careful with Carfax reports. I was pulling a fifth wheel trailer with my 09 gmc 3500 ( had a transporter plate on the trailer) and a wheel bearing caught fire on the camper while on the interstate. of course fire and police responded, the officer put the report on my truck plate. so now a dirty carfac - it reads fire reported

You didn't say what you got for a trade in so we would have no idea if you lost anything...................

I think the average uninformed buyer of a used Tacoma would feel skittish if they learned that the frame was replaced. (even if by a Toyota dealer)

It's like buying a used car that has a reman engine.. it's one extra consideration that the next car on the lot doesn't have on its history.

Frame replacement is a major repair. No different than repairing the frame after an accident. I'd never buy a vehicle that needed to have its frame replaced, either from a crash or from rust.

No one reports anything to CarFax.

CarFax bots crawl all kinds of data bases looking for info and compiling it. It's why CarFax is rife with errors, because humans enter data into various systems.

I have no clue what the dealer who did your frame replacement had for options to code the work, but the options were too limited or the entrant ticked the wrong box.

But speaking of losing money, that's what happens 99% of the time you trade in a vehicle. If it wasn't a winning game for the dealer they wouldn't do it.

    Enjoy your new ride.

That’s why it’s important to keep and maintain your own records. Your own records and receipts speaks volumes and answers many questions for buyers.

Fuck CarFax. Had a very, very minor ding in my rear bumper (2006 one week old Tacoma). I was pissed at the other driver for rolling into my new pickup so I went for a claim on his insurance. Took the $550 cash and lived with the quarter size ding.

Went to sell in 2014 and the report listed "Accident". So, no real details. Fuck CarFax.

I'm guessing that your dealer used the carfax as a bargaining chip against you and now they're using it as a selling point with your truck on their "used" lot. An informed buyer knows the incredible value of having the frame, and all of the parts that go with it, replaced.
I'd be willing to bet you got done without lube and someone's having a party with the money they made from your truck. That being said....as long as you're happy with the deal thats all that matters. If there does come a "next time"....always sell your Tacoma outright.
Enjoy the new ride. She's a beauty!

I got $13,750. Was hoping for more like $15k.
I knew and accepted that going in. With my work schedule and not wanting to let a bunch of people low balling me the few grand I may have lost was the lesser of two evils. I’m enjoying my new car very much, and not answering email after email of stupid questions, and sitting around setting up test drives. I consider myself blessed to be in this financial position.
I'm enjoying it very much. Nicest car I’ve ever owned.

carfax isn’t an accurate source of information, but is valid in the eyes of the buyer because it’s usually all they have. The dealer tried to report my Prius as been in an accident, even though they just saw what they thought was evidence of a repair? Which was nothing but Toyota quality and stickers the dealer puts on themselves.

Yeah Lexus makes a nice ride, I had a couple of GS430 in my day… but from experience, the mark levinson systems don’t handle low end well, I lost my rears listening to Ministry Filth Pig, sepultura Chaos AD and Roots always struggled to. I guess it’s hard to expect a mainstream product to really handle that though.

I don’t have the ML system. Wasn’t a concern. I’ll be adding a JL Audio amp and 10” JL sub in a sealed enclosure at some point. Both are waiting on my workbench. Slayer is my drug of choice.
Yes, I’ve heard you can, but actually getting it done is near impossible. It’s a non issue for me at this point.

Very cool, the cabin should be a killer platform for sound. One of my favorite shows was the South of Heaven tour, they played solo in a little burned out movie theater with about 200 of us, great night!

    4 run, 2 don't
The real simple question is, why didn't you just sell it?

There are 1st Gens with 120k miles getting 10k, you had a 2nd Gen with new frame and you took less than 14k?

The only person that suckered you is you.

I don't know what trim your Tacoma was, but in my area 2nd Gen TRDs with 150k+ miles are going for like $20k depending on condition.
You probably would have got more out of it had you sold it private party.

we had a F-Sport those seats are awesome and cozy. It was fast too. We really enjoyed it. Sucks what Carfax will tell you. Delas only use it to their advantage. I had an '00 Wrangler TJ and a dealer only wanted to give me 1500 trade in for it. I told them to pound sand. So they told me to take it to CarMax and they would offer me more than what Carfax would pay me. CarMax offered $2500 not much better but i really anted the Mini cooper for my daughter and the to be free of dealing with California title transfers. You think dealers are raping us? Try transferring a title to California. They make you pay sales tax for a vehicle not even purchased in the state registered less than 2 years or some BS like that. Anywho, went back to the dealer for Mini Cooper and they shit themselves because he didnt have an approval from his sales manager to make that offer to me. I did get 2600 for my trade. I know its not CarFax just my experience with KBB, Carfax and shady sales. its everywhere.
