Drill a small hole (3/16" - 1/4") at the end of the crack to stop the crack from getting longer.

Bed stiffeners are a debate topic. Some are short and stubby, others are tall and thin. You will need to cut the bed mat if you have one, some don't want to do that. You will have to drill screw holes in the metal, some don't want to do that. Since you experienced a crack you should probably get a set on since something you're doing is stressing the composite enough to fail.

These trucks are not designed to go off road, at least not in the western US. They suffer from oil starvation on inclines, too.

They’re really designed to go down rough roads.

Of course they are. If Toyota made them any more off-road worthy, they would just be worse on road. Everyone should know that stock is a compromise position. Mostly on road, some off road. If you want to go hard off road, build a buggy and tow it in.

They are designed for offroad but also the street but you should have a buggy for offroad too? You’re contradicting yourself.

How much off-roading in Colorado and Utah have you even done in your Tacoma? What trails? Because you’re talking to someone who does it regularly and can tell you it’s VERY easy to put these trucks into places they are not designed to go. It doesn’t mean I don’t go there, but it’s clear I’m pushing past the factory design goals.

    They’re designed for trails at a 2-3 rating. I don’t consider it offroad unless it’s a 4+

Any descent bed stiffeners are fine. I have the Cali-Raised. They are just an "L"-bracket you put on your truck. They do the job. Cutting the mat was easy, still looks good. Now I have a bottle opener and more tie-down options at the end of my bed. Anyone on the fence about them, if you off-road or consistently put weight in the bed, have a topper, etc. just get a set.

Lol I agreed with you. Dirt roads not hard stuff. I have done dirt roads in both states but I know better than take it too far. I learned that shit the hard way 40 years ago.

I got @At The Helm pair (they had the bottle cap opener FTW integrated into before anyone) a week before I got my Snugtop Sport Hiliner back in April of 2017.

Not sure what you consider a dirt road but I can drive a Supra on what I consider a dirt road.
A stock Tacoma with skinny 33's and some sliders can conquer 90+ % percent of trails in both Utah and Colorado with a decent driver. It seems to me from what I've seen on this forum, seen on the trail and read about, the ones that deal with oil starvation are the ones that either need to stop on a incline 40° or more and take Instagram pics and have their truck at that angle for an extended period of time, or the ones that need several attempts at an obstacle and are also on a similar degree of incline for a extended amount of time.
Not trying to argue but this is just from my experiences:mudding:

To add to the thread, yes as others have said, stop the crack and get some bed stiffeners. I have the All Pro ones. They don't stick out too far and have lots of tie down points and extend higher up the bedside than most:thumbsup: I remember these being cheaper when I bought mine a few years ago, along with everything else!!

You are correct too. The problem is, everyone has different definitions of dirt roads.
I have two... Buggy trails and everything else.
And, let's be realistic... Minimum of 37's on some "roads" no matter the driver.
My diets roads are actually dirt roads lol.

Yep, maybe someday I'll graduate to 37's!! Then I can conquer some of those buggy trails:sawzall:
