If I were there, I might have been traumatized. Nothing a nice Tundra couldn't fix tho.

So I was there once and the sales guy had me in his office, all glass windows, and was looking up a TRD OR for me when his phone rang and he said how busy he was. He preceded to tell the guy that he’d call him back and that he was with someone who was looking for the same truck… the dumb ass had the guy in the next door “glass” office call, they both hung up at the same time. What a POS. Hope he was the guy on the ground

Hey you guys know of a machine shop in the area? My little putput vw blew the motor and I'm looking to have it all chem cleaned, block milled, piston chambers bored and honed, mill the head, and seat the valves.

It's a little metric diesel, honing needs the torque plate. I'm open to suggestions....

You could go with a rebuilt motor. Probably faster and cheaper.

Wasnt that different from what I found. Especially when you factor new injectors, turbo, clutch and timing. It has added up to more than I wanted but I'm just trying to get it going again.

Except for the clutch, is there any specific reason to buy injectors or a turbo? Just re-use. I say except for the clutch because you're there and might as well. idk. The reman may come with a warranty plus, you know the block is good.

If you want a decent machine shop, Tech Machine in Livermore is one I've used in a past life. (925)447 1155.

Reason is, and as far as our theory goes, the no. 3 injector failed and was dumping too much fuel which began to work around the rings into the oil. Oil got contaminated with it and since it acts like a detergent the other rings went bad. Comp gasses got into the case and I have oil from the valve cover breather into the intake, in the aftercooler and the turbo was over pressurized. Bearing in the turbo has a wobble and would need rebuild or replace. Stock replace is like 900, aftermarket with power increase is 1100, new injectors are 600, upgraded injectors are 600 (they sell cheaper ones but the oem replacement price is high).

....I also already jumped the gun and made it this far to see if I could rebuild....my buddy is a diesel mech and is going to help with rebuild and measuring tolerances so I'm not too worried about that part.

It’s a fair point. Idk, I’d test the injectors just to be sure. Turbos are voodoo magic :)

    Good luck!

He's a big diesel mechanic, like commercial and heavy equipment. He might not know. What are you worried about?

Hey guys reached out a while back about a shop for a re-gear, ultimately went with Shaffer's but they are booked till end of June. I'll be out of state around that time and won't be able to put in the time (2 to 4 hour drive to the shop and break in hours) realistically until September. I have family and access to a proper garage in SLO, I can do it myself and hope to not cause any fuckery or find a shop in slow that has early June availably. Or just post pone till winter for a re-gear.

Does anyone know any good shops in SLO while I start looking around?
