I gotta say: The brakes in the Model 3 are excellent. Would've gotten sideswiped by some jackass cutting in front of me (from across three lanes and a gore) on my way in to work this morning if I'd been in the truck or the old Subaru.

Brembo brakes for the win! (for those that didn't know, Tesla uses Brembo brakes) Another safety advantage of EV's that I don't see much said about is regenerative braking. When you lift off the accelerator in an EV braking begins right then. In an emergency when every micro second counts it can make the difference between a close call and an accident.

That was the most difficult thing to get used to on my test drive, the intense regenerative braking.

How is it in bad conditions? I know you can change the level of braking, somewhat. How is it when its say icy out?

With the Rivian it was a bit rough on ice before they released an update with a low regen snow mode. You’d have to feather the throttle carefully to make a really smooth transition from throttle to regen. With the update it is much, much better.

Getting used to one pedal driving took a day or two. I kept stopping short because I was used to how my Tacoma would coast. I got used to modulating the accelerator pedal to stop exactly where I want to. Now I view touching the brake pedal as a failure on my part. lol

So what happens in the slick? If I lift off the accelerator too quickly and regen braking kicks in too strongly and the wheels start to slip, the antilock brake system takes over. It's really not that different from stomping on the brake pedal in my truck. It just takes a slight adjustment with my foot on the accelerator to get everything settled down. All in all bad roads are bad and one pedal driving doesn't make it better or worse.

I'd love to try out a Rivian in the snow. With my Tesla feathering the throttle to brake has become completely natural. I wonder how they compare?

    BREAKING:

Toyota announces 10 BEV vehicles by 2026 in the USA and China
Concepts for the 10 models will be shown this fall

I dunno about you but I'd think the USA is a bigger pickup market than China. My guess is that there will be a BEV pickup of some type in the USA before or in 2026. I suspect a Tacoma BEV.

There's also the possibility of something to compete with the Maverick and the Ram 700 (or whatever Dodge ends up calling it here). Could be easier to design, since it could have a lot of commonality with an EV 3-row SUV.

Range is terrible and there's still the time expenses that it takes to charge, that isn't going to work for 90% of van buyers. I still like MBZ vans. Most people who buy a MBZ want an S class buy end up in an A class like those hot girls road tripping. Who'd still be better off in a Honda Civic.

With the exception of auto parts remanufacturing, recycling does not work that well. Look at single use recycling it's the biggest failuer in waste management in the past 30 years. Guess what a solar panel is a single use product, chances are SP recycling wont be that effective.

Modular battery packs are a great idea. A hydrogen fuel cell would have been cool to run electrics, stove, fridge, etc. to keep the batteries full and only for driving.

When Tesla initially announced pricing it was right around Model Y prices, (my preorder) can only hope that continues to hold reasonably true. The only known change is the addition of RWS.

That said, pickup truck prices have risen SUBSTANTIALLY since this was announced.

Tesla is always high-profit and has immense flexibility in pricing and I expect this has even more efficient production methods. Still, with the rise of truck prices I cannot imagine Tesla leaving money on the floor. Coming in with 4wd in the mid-60's would be immensely competitive to existing ICE (IMO) which is not usually the case with BEV.
