Interesting design. Easy to quick change barrel and other appealing features. Maybe in a while. I can see bennifits for either an armorer or airborn with the folding stock it’s pretty compact.
    Whatcha building now?

Older design, but I find those BRN-180 uppers appealing for that reason. Especially in .300 blk. Makes for a very small package.

I've debated the same for my eventual blackout build. I wanna shoot blackout but don't want to pay for blackout.

My attitude might change when my deadair wolfman gets out of jail around Christmas time. I got it for my MP5 and 357 lever gun but hear it does a great job on 300 as well...

why not do a .30 carbine AR? thats the original 300blackout. :)

much cheaper to shoot & readily available for about .40 a round. my wife & kids love the AR in it. easy shooting, little recoil(none). the mag adapter & barrel are readily available from a Member over on WG.

or if ya want could give ya a link to the guy who commercially offers them for sale. also could sell ya my spare set.

Because the whole reason I’d want a blackout is to suppress it. There aren’t readily available subsonic rounds in 30 carbine.

Had a disappointing first range session with my new 6.5 Grendel today. Things started really well with my first 2 shots touching at 100 yds and then it all went to hell. Everything after that was literally all over the place. Started thinking I got a bad scope or something in the gun came loose??? When I got home I gave it a good look and discovered the slim handguard had been touching the adjustable gas block. You can see where it wore a notch in the handguard. Guess I'm in the market for a larger handguard and/or a new gas block. I'll be pulling it apart this weekend to get a better look.20230515_211719.jpg

ok lets go back to this... you didnt say how many rounds you shot in total. if something is moving after 2-4 rounds? problem.

it shouldnt be a "wear" pattern. theres nothing in there that moves. so if you got something moving in there? you have another problem.

shouldnt be a complicated problem, but lets look at it. back me up a little bit.

did you buy this upper assembled ? or put it together out of parts?

if you bought it as a complete upper.... did you check the barrel nut before you put that "slim" handguard on it? same for the gas block. did you check it?

good news: unless you put a crap ton of ammo thru it? you havent had time to ruin the gasblock from the inside, it should just be cosmetic damage.

if you are unhappy with the guard? change it, but if you like it? that little nick isnt gonna make any difference. file it down, buff it out & re anodize it, paint it or even just take a marker to it for now. no use to throw money away at this point.

I took his post to imply that the clearance between the hand guard and gas block is so tight that barrel whip when firing is causing the gas block to contact the free float hand guard. If that is the case, it's 100% a problem.

If he is getting barrel whip on shots 3+? But not on 1-2?
Thts not enough time/heat to cause creep/flex that soon.

The idea of a free float is to avoid contact. That kind of gouge didn't happen by a rub.

Hold the handguard, now see if u can wiggle the barrel with ur other hand. Simple test before u get deeper. We always start with the obvious stuff.

I'm going to pull it apart and investigate this weekend. It is a PSA 20" assembled upper. I built the lower. I put about 80 rounds total through it. I hate to even show the target because it is embarrassing. I have some nice rifles that shoot tight groups. And I could not get anything remotely close to accuracy.
