Highway Mileage

Was coming back from Gatlinburg for a little get away today and thought i would really test my MPG on the highway..(08 4dr v6 4wd Taco). If you all know anything about the area they're a lot of hills on the highway. Including going over Jellico mountain.. I filled up from Gatlinburg before i left (because it was about 15 cents cheaper at $3.31) drove back home which was almost exactly 120 miles. Filled my truck back up with almost exactly 5.5 gallons.. I didn't drive it hard, tried to keep my cruise control on all the time and around 75 mph the whole way..

For all you math people thats 21.818 mpg.. So i have to say i was pretty pumped about that haha

 

Keep the rpms under 2000 and you would be REALLY pumped.

I do the same on road trip (as well as around town now). I like to see the mpgs go up. Congrats!

 

Is your truck 2wd or 4x4? Because 4x4 substracts approx 1mpg highway.

my cross country trip netted me about 20 point something. I forget the exact #, but I calculated it each fill up.

 

my 06 2wd 4 clyinder 5 speed xtra cab, the small 2wd not the pre runner. i get 23.4 on interstate travel at 70. If I try to run with the big dogs. 16

In my stock 06 access cab 4x4, 4.0 v6, 265 75 16 tires with leer cap, I average 22mpg on the highway. I have gotten in the high 23's. I always go right at 70 and run 91 octane.

High 23's were achieved in the springtime, and after a total fluid change (diffs/tcase/engine) to full synthetic, newer air filter and spark plugs as well. NO cruise control either. Have seen MANY 400 mile tanks without the fuel light ever coming on.....cant remember it ever coming on since owning the truck new in 06.

I am very easy on my pickup and try not to let it surf gears/shift down on the road and hate the cruise control.

Sucks that some of you guys are getting 14ish MPG with these engines, to me, that is horrible for a v6 and I would not be as happy with my truck......BUT I am beyond happy with my gas mileage!! I calculate my mileage every time I fill up and have since new.

 

If you keep under 55 MPH then you can get 23+ MPG
Our trucks are bricks with wheels. The faster above 55 MPH the more of the fuel usage. And it does not go linear

I consistently get 3mpg better at 55 than I do at 65-70.

 

at about 65mph i get about 18.5 hwy. pretty good for 35s imo.

yeah thats with cruise most of the way... i do about 14 city. not sure about where you live but here its all mts. flatland would be more!!

 

Well I'm all stock, and I don't think of anyway I would do 21 MPG highway at 75 MPH, no way with the weather here, but it's nice to know the truck can!

 

I drove from RI to OH this past summer. I would say I was doing 75 or so for a good stretch. Almost hit 22. 20.something, 21.something at every fill-up on the highway. Got backto city driving way shorter trips, dropped to 17-19 like a brick.

 

Whats a good filter to get to replace mine with for the price? I just purchased it used a couple months ago.. It has 34k on it as of today, a new filter could only help!

That is good I was happy when I got 18.??? a couple fillups ago. I have a dblcab v6 4x4 with 265 duratracs.
