Came across a '22 TRDOR with really low miles at a good price. And then I found out why. Pics below of the before and after. Anyone have any experience with a rebuild like this? The dealer's site is up front about the damage. Plus, all the reports disclose the info, too. Just curious what everyone's thoughts are on it. Run? Or entertain it? It's not really located close to me so I haven't checked it out in person. I do have a contact in that area that I could ask to look at it.

It would depend on what parts were used, Toyota body panels and parts or off brand junk that tends to rust faster and may have quality issues.

Anyplace steel that was smacked, reworked, or welded will start to rust much faster then when it was ''original.''

You need to really dig down behind the grille and look for parts that ''may have been good'' and reused instead of replaced. That includes lines, coolers, wires, [see if they were spliced and if so, were they done right or poorly] and so on.

As stated above, and quality of work performed. Pick it a part. Plus how is title labeled now? It would have to be price 15K to 20k less then one that never had damage. Specially if salvage title.

The headlights aren’t OEM and the front chin spoiler didn’t come on the TRD OR. It seems whomever put it back together cut corners and / or didn’t know the truck. I would worry about other areas that might have been done incorrectly.

I’d be very hesitant to consider it, especially since it’s not local to you.

Great info! I appreciate it. While it's priced well for obvious reasons, it still isn't the $15k-$20k lower mentioned. Maybe $10k or so. While the title is clean, with me not being local and being able to really inspect it myself, I don't think I'm going to entertain this one. I definitely don't want to to get into possible issues down the road due to corners possibly being cut. Thanks again everyone!

$33k. My thinking is that for that for around that price or a little more, I could probably find a '20 or '21 that never had any damage with relatively low miles. The good thing is, I'm not in a rush to buy anything at the moment.

If it were cheap enough and I was just going to bomb it through off road trails, sure. But never as a daily. For $33k, heck no!

And yet nobody on this forum bats an eye if someone cuts and welds a frame to make "improvements".

I've owned three branded title Toyotas and loved them all. I'm driving two now and only sold the third because I didn't need two Tacos. Look around on this forum and you will see all kinds of abused trucks. A lot of them cut up and spliced together intentionally to make "improvements", and if the mods don't work as expected the truck gets torn apart and rebuilt with some other idea... and there's a lot of people here drooling over the modified trucks.... but they worry about a truck that's been repaired???

Someone mentioned that the headlights weren't stock. OMG! Does that mean all trucks with aftermarket headlights are suspect? All you guys with aftermarket lights have destroyed your trucks!

So two things. First, do your due diligence if you are considering a rebuilt truck. Look at it carefully yourself, and if you don't know enough to really know what to look for take the truck to an expert. Keep in mind that most experts have an investment in their reputation and will be overly critical. The best way to get a truly honest opinion is to have a good friend that's an expert and is willing to go beyond the typical professional critic type of opinion. I'd never show anyone the pics of the damage before I took it in for an opinion. Let them know it had damage, but let them find problems on their own. After getting an initial assessment, then show them the pics and see what they say.

Secondly, I'd bet the asking price is highly negotiable. You say it's 10K less than a truck without damage? Offer less. Offer a LOT less. Damage like that may only be cosmetic (or not), but look at all the negative opinions expressed here by people with nothing they are going to be investing.

The truck has an unbranded title? That's kind of amazing. Regardless, if the truck's been repaired right it will go just as far and just as trouble free as any other truck on the road. Your job is to find out whether the repairs have been done well. For a possible 20K in savings that I could use for other things important in my life... I'd do the work. But that's just me...

Yup... and fear of failure is a great motivator when taking any risk.

I'm sitting here reading through these posts thinking, well, it depends on how much they're selling it for. Then I saw the asking price.

Is this a wreck that the dealership bought and repaired to resell? They most likely put as little money into repairs as possible to maximize profits. There's no telling what corners were cut that you probably wouldn't even be able to see without taking some shit apart. If it were me, this would absolutely not even be a consideration unless it were a much, much, MUCH lower asking price. I would not count on the price being "highly negotiable", they may take $2k off at the most and that is still way too high IMO.

For $33K you could get yourself lot of truck somewhere else, and not one that's been in an accident and repaired by a profit driven dealership. You would be paying a hell of a lot of money for a whole lot of unknown. The way I see it, that dealer has a problem on their hands, and that is selling that truck. I would not make myself a part of it. IMO, the fact that you're asking about it on TW indicates that you have some doubts about it, I would go with your instincts.
