The infamous click up front…GOING DOWN!

For at least the last 10K I've had a "clink" noise for lack of a better word when I hit a bump hard up front. Happens most on speed bumps or pulling out of driveways. All stock suspension, stock Sport rims, 265/65R17 tires with absolutely no rubbing.

Ordered up the 4R bolts, hope that fixes it, will see tomorrow. Good info, thanks.

I'm assuming folks are maintaining the stock 61 ft/lb torque spec with this change?

Had this click a couple days ago, came across this thread ordered the bolts, and decided to retorque my LCA bolts all 4 sides and that solved the clicking issue.

 

I had same, and a very loud clunk, you could hear it if standiing over 200 foot away.

About on every large speed bump. Went away as soon as I swapped out the shocks for Bilstein 5100. That was about 2 years ago, and the clunk has never returned

 

Does anyone have the 4 runner bolts off the truck and can measure the length of the untreaded area? To do this right, youd need right at 47mm of unthreaded shoulder/shank as thats the outer width of the tabs on the LCA. This would make it so everything is fully supported by a full width diameter and not on threads then you could double up on a washer on the nut side if the shank was too long to get proper clamping.

I wonder if there is enough wiggle room to use a 9/16ths bolt (14.3mm) for a real nice n tight fit.

 

Sorry, no, they are already installed on my truck, and I didn't think to measure the shank before installing them.
I don't think you would want the shank to go all the way through the lower control arm mount, as you want the lower shock/coilover mount to rotate as the suspension flexes.

 

a retorque solved your issue or did bolts and retorque solve it?

 

Is this the Clunk i hear when i drive my truck out of my driveway every morning? It seems to be coming from the front passenger area....happens about 1 second after i put it into drive and start pulling out. Just one single clunk. Stock suspension 2022 TRD Sport.

You definitely dont want the bolt to rotate. The inner sleeve of the bushing does not rotate on the bolt it needs to be clamped. Hence why I said doubling up on a washer to make sure things are clamped properly without running out of threads.

Gotta make a home depot run... ill see what kind of 9/16ths bolts they have.

 

Yes on the torque spec.

 

Did the Retorque before the bolts came in. Solved my problem, it may not be the case for others. I will still replace my bolts.

Picked up mine today and installed them in like 15 min. Seems fixed, I did still get some noise on one really hard bump but could have been something else. The clink I get on speed bumps appears to be gone. Will update when I have driven more!

Understood this thread was about the Bellmetric bolts, but I prefer to stick to a factory part when possible just because. Good thread.

 

What is the reason why the stock bolt is designed like that?
