Yokohama Geolandar MT-G003

Looks like I'll have to store a spare set of 3-peak rated A/Ts for next Winter these M/Ts are terrible on icy road, it's doable if you drive slow--I was slipping here and there going down steep hills around my area, going uphill is OK. I run 33 psi on the daily, ran 28 psi on icy road, 20 or below in deeper snow/mud

 

Once again Amazon is unavailable. Hard to get a set out here or 33x12.50r15. I’m not paying 600 bucks for shipping to Hawaii.

Interesting video posted in another thread about another tire but I'm wondering if it's relevant here and wanted to get some thoughts. The G003's were my first MT tire and I tried the chalk test but experienced what they talk about in the video of having to go pretty darn low to get the desired chalk test result.

This is true for probably a lot of MT style tires yes. Problem is that if you go through the inflation tables to get the tire up to the OEM load capacities, you need to be at 35+ and out "trucks" are "light" compared to what LT tires are capable for, so its always "overinflated" by a chalk test.

That said many still run 28, 30, 32 PSI and are fine....its probably just not up to the OEM load capacity at that point, but should hold the truck fine....air up before towing basically.

Its all a balance of comfort , wear patterns, and longevity. I find with my G003 pizza cutters they are narrow enough that my 35 psi is close to good, and regular rotations seem to keep them wearing nicely.....wider you go, worse Id imagine the issue is.

 

Good points. I guess I was specifically referring to proper tire pressure for even wear during normal on-road driving. Then I just air down from there for offroading and air up from there for hauling/towing.

Can anyone comment on the road noise on these? Some reviews say they’re the quietest MT you can get, while others say they’ll blow your ear drums out.

 

Ok I have 6k on these tires and they are as quiet if not quieter than BFG KO2s. I’ve had KOs on my Tacoma and previously on my 1st gen tundra. They are louder than Falken Wildpeaks which I had on for 10k prior to this set of Yoks.

09-02-23 update:
Got 11k on them and they are noisier now.

 

We have a set of these on our Jeep (37s) and love them. I rotate all 5 and so far have about 15k miles on them with lots of heavy off-road use. Mostly rocks. The lugs have some signs of chunking but on highway they are still quiet and ride smooth and over 50% tread left. We have headlocks and depending on terrain I run an average of 8psi off-road. On road loaded for overlanding I run about 33psi. The only downsides I experienced with these tires is they are a bit on the heavy side and they pick up and fling rocks like no other. Other than that I don't know if I'll ever change to another tire and plan to add them to the Tacoma when I'm ready for new tires.

 

I've been lazy to rotate tires on my last few sets but I just upgraded to 35s, so I'm really going to try and rotate all 5 this time around.

 

Do you have a number for the weight? I'm currently running a used set of 315/75r16 Patagonia's but I'm looking ahead to when they burn up and it's either a new set of Patty's or these. Weight is huge since I'm not geared, but I can't find a solid number for wether or not these are the same weight or heavier

 

315/75R16 is 68.8lbs, 35x12.5R17 is 70.8.
