    Hey guys.
Another issue I'm dealing with. 2023 trd pro, when I put it in gear it sounds like something is hitting metal, and it jerks. Same thing happens when going from Park to reverse or reverse to drive, or park to drive. I can hear loud tump and jerks forward. Dealer is stating i have to pres brake more firmy. What you think. Is it common problem and csn it be fixed

Doesn't sound normal unless you are riding the brake at high idle before shifting it in gear. Even then these trucks go into gear fairly smooth, at least mine always has.

This may be a silly question, but did their suggestion make a difference?

I don't think pressing brake harder is the way to solve problem

Check the u-joints in the rear drive shaft. A lurch/banging may be from a failed u-joint spinning enough to jolt the vehicle while the slack is taken up. You'll need to lift the rear end up off the ground, then get under it and try to spin the driveshaft by hand. If there's a failed u-joint you should be able to get a noticeable amount of "slop" before it stops letting you spin the driveshaft by hand. It'll only be a few degrees of rotation, but it will be noticeable.

cold start, high idle, will cause more of lurch and require more brake pressure.
If they are sure, and you are still unsure, maybe suggest they find a comparable truck to do a side by side comparison?

It makes no sense to press on breaks harder to fix the jerky transmission. Why would anyone want to deal with this issue

There was a TSB for this at one point, but I didn’t think the newer years fell under it. It was specially for lurching from park to drive and to reverse. From personal experience, do the research for the TSB because some dealerships will claim there isn’t one when there is. Print it out to take to them if you find it or one that applies to your VIN.

the truck shouldn't lurch forward at all if you are on the brakes. you might hear a clunk, but the truck shouldn't roll at all.

From your description, I have to conclude that the transmission is not the root cause of your issue. I suspect it’s a common combination of high engine idle and lack of brake application.

Transmissions are passive. Engines are active.
