Since no one else posted this, private sale KBB in that area for a base 2022 OR SB in fair condition is $39,242.00. You are paying $6000.00 less than the private party price for a beat but not wrecked vehicle (how I would describe KBB fair condition). Take that information for what it is worth...

I am pretty comfortable with my investing strategies. My mindset is focused on return. The max return on a savings opportunity is just the savings amount. And it could be less than that if there’s hidden costs, probably so in this case.

I’d rather risk the same amount of money with the same amount of risk in an asset without a cap on the money it could earn.

It’s not about risk tolerance, it’s about reward potential. Get it?

Since it has frame damage, I tend to disagree.

If you can afford to throw $33k at this truck you can afford a new 2023 TRD OR with 3 year warranty and it will retain all of it's value.

    I'd take $33k and buy a new Frontier 4x4 king cab S.

Agreed. I would say any brand new truck with a warranty is a better choice.

Probably would go with a SR AC 4cyl. $33k is right around the price of a Frontier S 4x4 that a dealer wants to get rid of.

33k hell no! I bought a 2023 TRD OR DC for 38k + TTL last month! I am in the camp of 10k less and even that I would have a hard time with.

A few, mainly added skids. I like leaving the suspension alone. I drive forest service dirt roafs in the desert west extremely extremely too fast. Toyota nailed this suspension going 65 across desert terrain. Changing it is dumb unless you have a specific need like crawling or mud.
Holy shit! 33k ? I'll sell you a flawless g2 for about half that.

I think the main issues I’d bring up is that it was repaired to the wrong build specs. Chin strap and aftermarket headlights tells me it was repaired based on price vs doing it right by somebody that didn’t know the difference. Then there is the price, which is well above asking for one with that much damage. You can get one with no damage history for not much more. Just the piece of mind to not worry about it is a walk away from it for me. Unless it’s just going to be a trail basher.

I appreciate everyone's comments and feedback. I was obviously hesitant with this Taco anyway. I really haven't been in a hurry but was willing to pull the trigger if the right truck came up. The one I shared in my OP wasn't it. I felt that even in my gut.

Continuing my search, I came across a 2020 TRD OR last night that had low miles on it, super clean report, 1 owner (lease) and lots of maintenance records. All for "only" a tad more than the rebuild would have cost. I agree, the prices now days are crazy. Unfortunately it's the world we live in now. I hired a third party mobile mechanic to go check the truck out today. He was fantastic to work with. He spent 2 hours checking it out; in it, under it, engine bay, fluids, lines, electrical, checked for codes, etc. He then drove it. Everything checked out. The bed looks like it was never used. He said as best he could tell, 4WD was never even used either. Looking at the hitch receiver, he said a hitch had never been inserted. Not a single scratch on it. Skid plate was perfect, not a scratch. It sounds like someone leased this and just drove it around town for 2.5 years. I'm pulling the trigger on this new find and fly out Saturday morning to pick it up.

After years of driving (and loving) 4Runners, I'm finally joining the Taco gang!
