ok guys so about 3 months ago after the snow had began to melt i was driving and i went to stop and it just so happened that there was some black ice, so no problem my ABS kicked in i felt it doing its thing... great! so a little later the same thing happened, but this time it had a bad noise with it too and it has continued to have the noise ever sinse when my ABS kick in. if i had to describe what the noise sounded like(which im sure would be helpful)it sounds like a motor kicks in or something.

so 1 of 2 things happened.
    1. it has always hapened and i just didn't realize it.
    2. i screwed something up

    any advice?

and i want to apologize for the location of this thread b/c i am sure there is a more appropriate place for it, i just couldnt find it.

Sounds normal. If your front wheels lose traction (rather than all 4), it'll kick in where you hear the motor but it won't pump the pedal. If you lose traction on all 4, it'll pump the pedal and sound more like a pump running and a horrible grinding sound. Both sounds are normal when the ABS kicks in.

Glad to hear that the grinding and brake pedal kick is normal... I get the grinding almost everytime me and my friends go off roading. I was beginning to worry I had broken something. :(

Mine makes a funky noise when it kicks in, i dont even want to try it describe it over the interwebz but if you haven't had any braking issues, i wouldnt worry that you messed something up.

I think the grinding is your TRAC kicking in to prevent some of your wheels from spinning if it doesn't have the traction the others do.

    would it be?
i turn the traction control off when i'm off road
    puts it in Auto LSD.
the grinding comes from the front wheels only and the brake pedal starts hopping when i press the pedal when i get really loose on the trail.

It's ABS. I don't have traction control and my ABS kicks in anytime I'm in the dirt with rocks and am on the brakes. The moment you hit a hole, a tire loses traction and the ABS kicks in. They need a way for people to turn off the ABS system (like when offroading and in the snow when it causes your stopping distances to increase).
