You have to understand that they have a lot of deliveries and/or pickups (usually pickups) to complete and often we don't have the time to wait, or we'll miss other stops. It's a real juggling act many days. It's rare though that my dispatch won't expect me to get back to make the stop if I decide to leave, missed stops don't go down well with our management. And if I decide to leave, I need to let dispatch know why so he is armed when the customer calls to ask why I left. I know of a couple of LTL's that blow off pickups all too often and their management doesn't seem to care.

Just yesterday, I had a delivery that didn't get made until after almost all of my pickups were done. When the customer commented "well, nice of you to show up", I told him I had been there at 12:03 and knew they wouldn't unload me or even let me in the door to unload myself until after 12:30. Since I still had a couple of deliveries to make and a bunch of early closers to pick up, I went on with my day and got back to them as soon as I had time. He saw me drive by at 12:03 and knew I wasn't bullshitting him. He also knows we've had that discussion before and that my boss had backed me up when his boss called to complain.

Personally, I get paid whether I'm getting loaded or waiting, doesn't matter to me. I have a couple of customers that don't seem to appreciate the fact that their delay is costing us other business. It's a two way street. If someone is consistently holding me up, they are the one that's going to get pushed to the back of the line and possibly missed. My dispatch will back me up on that and will have our salesperson show up with dates and times if they would like to discuss the issue. If I can make 4 stops in an hour or 1 stop takes me an hour, the choice is clear.

I'm not unreasonable, I will wait sometimes, I realize shit happens some days, sometimes 6 trucks show up to fill 4 docks. It happens. OTOH, when a place sticks 5 empty trailers that won't ship until tomorrow in their 6 docks at 2PM, when they have a 2nd shift to do those loads and then expect people to wait, I have no patience for that. Neither will my dispatch or boss.

Oh, they'll make it to STL just fine, getting past there is where things get dicey.

Especially since the trolls (those that live below the bridge) couldn't give a damn about the UP.

Thank you! So it was a mom and two Cubs. The mom and one cub took off instantly and the one I got a picture of was the one that panicked and went up a tree. He then climbed down that tree and went to another tree, stared at me for a bit, then went back down to the ground and stared at me a little more and then I figured I would leave him alone. The grouse's natural camouflage made it very difficult to get a decent picture.

Another great set of pics but is there any way you could put the location by the pics so those of us that live vicariously thru your lens would have an idea where they are missing the views.

That's what I'm here for, the mods and the gear.
I posted something in reply to @ rubbersidedown, but realized my mistake and deleted it. Couldn't figure why his were heavier than mine (did I just buy knock-offs:eek:), than saw DCLB.

Not needing specific points but neighborhoods, as I grew up in the southeastern corner, I never had the chance to explore north, northwest part of the state other than a year of school in Marquette and a couple of trips to the Soo (godparents), Ironwood (grandma) which were mostly as a child.

XPO is a PIA. Won't work with customers and my liftgate charge was almost $300 for three pallets. They know the site and have been here several times with a lift... Oh well, is what it is. 3rd world problems (oh wait, that is 1st world problems...)

First three days have been lake Superior shoreline or close to it, so I think I'm going to have to give the lake Michigan shoreline some love today.

Funny you say that. I used to work with 3 Yoopers, 1 from Negaunee, 1 from Ishpeming, and the other from Palmer. One said no way, never and the other 2 said may as well, Lansing doesn't give a damn about us.

Madison may not give a damn either...

Does Madison care about anything outside the city limits?
