Hey members. I'm interested in swapping my 2018 Sport OEM headlights for the OEM Pro LEDs. I like the black bezel on the Pros compared to the chrome bezel on the non-Pros and it will compete my de-chroming job, however I don't like the illuminated TRD and PRO letters. I also sort of feel like I'm making my Sport a faux Pro. Could I spray smoke over the TRD PRO sections to make it more subtle? Perhaps a small piece of dark film?

    Thoughts?

I don't get the whole "faux pro" crowd personally. It's your truck. You make it look however you want!

I have seen films to cover the amber marker light portion of the headlights. I suspect you could do much the same with the Pro lights if you would prefer them muted.

Shouldn't be a problem. Might even consider using plastidip or some black vinyl from the hobby store. That section is just for looks anyways.

Don't forget to get a harness from https://fbchs.square.site/

81150-04290 is that the part number you are looking for? It is the Nightshade headlight so it doesn't have the TRD or PRO markings.

Yeah I'm not too worried about my truck being a "faux pro". The lights would look perfect without the TRD and PRO. I'm definitely hesitant to spray paint them ($$$). At least if the film wears out or looks like crap I can peel it off.

Yes black vinyl would work and super cheap "mod". I already have the FBC harness. I was debating on a BHLM vs OEM LED and the consensus is OEM.

Correct, but it has the chrome bezel.

Pro's don't have the chrome bezel but do have a cheesy chrome "TRD" (right side) and "PRO" (left side). Those letters illuminate too for even more "cheese"

Actually looking at the picture I just posted, I think any "mod" to cover up the TRD PRO markings would look like shit. It wouldn't be covered since it's recessed behind the clear housing quite a bit. So now the question becomes....chrome bezel vs chrome badging. Seems like most members are purchasing the non-Pro LED's.

The chrome on them is pretty sedate. Much less than the non-pro halogen lights.

I'm not a chrome hater, but I literally never notice the chrome on my non pro LEDs. It's not at all obnoxious like the ugly 2020+ chrome tail lights. Those are terrible.

I did (and would still) go with the non-pros. The Pro badging is cheesy, especially on a non Pro truck.

Personally, I love the upgraded LED, despite the perceived cheese... Can't really go wrong with OEM IMO. If you prefer the PRO variant go for it!

Go with the Sport or Off-Road LED lamps. Then there is no need to cover up the TRD or Pro letters. I love mine. And such an easy conversion with @daveeasa 's harness adapter.

    Edit

Wow, I never noticed the chrome before. I was just really happy with the LED and the look being so much darker. Oh well... I prefer this look over the TRD Pro lettered look. I can live with this small bit of chrome.

I went full cheese for mine but I sure spent a ton of time agonizing about the decision. F'ing Toyota, right? They couldn't help but add in some chrome just to stick it to us.

That's why many opt for the pro versions. Less chrome from the factory.

Took me a year to even notice there was any chrome on them. Does not bother me at all, but I don't hate chrome overall. I think it can provide a nice contrast at times. Too much of it sucks though.

I may bite the bullet and pay the 350 to have the badging removed. I could have them shipped directly to Kevin. Cry once...

If I were you I'd put the extra $350 toward SS3's max or pro fogs. I'm completely happy with the trd pro versions.

I went through all of this. Many of us did. The most sane decision is pick and stick. Kevin orders all pro headlights now, no point to ordering non-pro, it's just more chrome to paint over.

You can self bake to remove the pro/trd parts but getting them sealed up good is not necessarily the easiest thing in the world.

Ultimately, you're paying 350 or whatever to remove an internal, non-functional piece of shiny bling which has 3 letters on it? Or maybe paying even more for a blackout sidemarker too? Good way to blow extra cash and be slightly different but not really the smart move on something that is easily damaged and could need replacement in a minor impact.
