Gritto Splains Why Motorcycle Mechanics Charge So Much


The first time I had the carb off was when I tore down the top end to do the recommended valve clearance adjustment.
Getting it off and then back on was a bigger pain in the ass than doing the valves.
Most things on a bike you're trying to get to... something else is in the way.

Then there was the time I had the carb off (twice) when I had to replace the cracked and rattling stock pipes.
That sure opened a can of worms.
You can't just slap on aftermarket pipes and call it a day.
Had to adjust the mixture (to stop backfiring and airbox farting), which meant drilling out the cover plug on the screw adjustment.
Guess they don't want you fucking with it

Put everything back together, and now there's deceleration popping.
Had to strip off the bullshit EPA anti-smog junk and marble the hoses.
Then plug where one of the aforementioned hoses connected to the airbox.
All good... finally


Luckily, there are pdf manuals online for how to fix everything on a Vulcan.
No mechanic has ever touched my bike for anything other than inspection
