2022 Trail Edition Owners Thread

2022 Trail Edition LR owner here. I came from a 2015 Sport that I loved until someone decided to rear-end me going 40 mph at a stoplight!

I see a lot of talk about fog lights and frankly I don't want to replace the steering column switch (the thought of taking off my steering wheel on a new, expensive truck scares me). Can I just install the fogs into the factory hookups and then run a wire through firewall and into a switch on the dashboard that I can press on when needed? I don't need fogs all the time, but we do get some gnarly weather in NTX and there's mornings that I could use some amber fogs to cut through rain and fog.

Also, does anyone else notice that it takes just a second longer than usual to start their truck? My 2015 used to fire up right away, and my 2022 seems to take a little bit longer to start.

Lastly, has anyone figured out what the best tire size is for this specific lift?

Sorry for the noob questions, I'm still getting used to a 3rd gen.

Here is what I did in case you care...

 

I took the boxes out, put mat in and traced a template on the mat wit boxes on top and trimmed the mat. I wanted to be able to remove mat for cleaning.

 

What did you use for this mat? I’ve been looking for something to make a mat out of but don’t want to chop up an expensive OEM one!

Truck looks great! Do you have any straight-on side pics - I have a white ‘22 TE and am getting 5100’s on all 4 corners doing a 2/1 lift, factory coil in the front and 1” block in the rear. Considering the KO2 265/75r16s so want to see your fitment from the side lol

Has anyone done speaker upgrades in a 22+ I see all these posts about the Subaru Tweeters and kicker front speakers making a massive difference but they all seem to be on 2020 or older trucks…

I would assume they didn’t change anything in the audio system to make the later years sound better but want to make sure I’ll get an improvement in sound if I do swap them out I actually don’t think it’s that bad as is so upgrading would be great…long term I do plan on a little amplifier under the seat to power door speakers (I’m not a bass head so not looking at a sub plus I don’t want to give up storage)

Thanks for the update, looks good - got any side profile pics?

Just picked mine up from the shop - added Bilstein 5100’s on all four corners stock coils and leafs with a 1” block in the rear. Going for a 2/1 lift. Ride is definitely better. Stock 265/70r16 tires

Have the front 5100’s set to notch 5 for supposedly 2” of lift but it looks higher than that to me - still have some measuring to do to see where I’m actually sitting. Ordered a 1.5 block for the rear that I might add to get rid of the reverse rake lean.

 

I have a 23Pro6MT and before has a 19ORMT. The same audio upgrade worked for me even though there was considerable differences in the head units between the model years.

awesome set-up with some great scenery, can’t beat it. I will say the letters-out look is growing on me.

I think we can fit 285s with the 2” lift just not sure how the 4mm offset of the trail wheels will fit - might need spacers, my 265s are pretty close to the UCA right now. If doing a lot of flexing, might get some rubbing with the 285s though. Only way to find out is to do it or spend countless hours in the forums lol

I've owned several Land Cruisers 80 series and had BFG's on them with the letters facing in thought I'd try something different on this truck.

 

285/75/16 1.5 spacers no rub with a 3/2 lift

 

Got some bronze stuff from Agency 6. Their powder coat matches the wheels perfectly. Made in USA.

 

going to be putting 5100s all around on my 2023 LR trail and remove the hitachi. Did you find a big difference after changing to the 5100s? Also did replacing the 0.5 rear spacer with a 1" block make a difference in ride quality? Might do that as well to make the front and rear level. Also what spacer brand did you go with or recommend? Don't want to mess with the overall suspension outside of these additions to make it as simple as possible. Thanks for any help

 

I just did this 3 weeks ago and gained a noticeable improvement in ride quality. Rear blocks have not affected the ride quality imo. The only thing I notice a difference on is the steering feels a little less responsive but not by much and this is from the lift in general. Higher center of gravity and alignment limits - just different physics but definitely can get used to it and don't feel any less safe.

I went w/ iron blocks after seeing some negative things about aluminum. I had a great buying experience from extremeterrain.com - with that said, it was my third try. I received the same incorrect aluminum blocks after ordering iron from both 4wp.com and suspensionlifts.com - 4wp just got acquired by wheelpros last year and I couldnt get anyone to help me with returning the blocks - had to dispute w/ credit card company.

Here is my set up - changed from 1" to 1.5" blocks after all said and done - didn't expect the nose to sit that high w/ the 1" blocks.
