That might apply to automatics with high mileage that have never been changed, not a manual.

I changed at 10,000. That way I knew they are full, and was able to inspect the old oil for forbidden sprinkles

    My son just scored...

Back story, last summer he went to work as a sales associate for a Toyota dealership up here in New Hampshire and did such a good job they allowed him to buy a new GR86 6MT at MSRP (prior to that he had a 2009 ACLB V6 6MT). In January of this year the dealership restructured and basically let all of the old-school sales associates move on to greener pastures; he took the opportunity to move to Florida where he has a great group of friends from his time in the Navy and shortly thereafter, and living down there he was like, "I love the GR86, but there is no where around here to have fun with it." He sold the car last week (for a tidy little profit) and started shopping for his next ride; here's what he bought yesterday:
    • 2004 Tacoma Single Cab Long Bed
    • I4 engine
    • 5-Speed Manual
    • 158,000 miles
    • Condition: basically showroom
    Here are a few shots:

    Uh..... No.

Manual transmission gear oil can be changed at factory intervals just fine, or more often if you tow or end up underwater

I don't know who claimed that but you should not listen to them. Manual transmissions don't slip, they run on gears with hard teeth that either mesh or break, nothing else. They have synchros that slip to engage gears smoothly with the hubs that connect them, but that is all and that behavior is not affected by changing the oil unless an oil way out of spec is used.

What the others have said, the information you're being given is specifically for autotragic transmissions; you can safely ignore not only that specific advice, but ALL advice from that source.

Don't even listen to "those people" again. The gear oil is for the gears only...the clutch is dry like a brake pad.

Not manual related but the pics posted previously reminded me. Can’t tell from the clarity of the pic but looks like the volume controls are going to be on that up/down rocker and songs will probably be left and right buttons.

It's a little partition to keep the passenger from tangling their cords and other stupid junk up in my shifter. And an "Oh shit" handle.
