so i took off my egr valve off yesterday and cleaned it with some seafoam deep creep...when i put it back on and went for a drive i can hear this loud ticking noise when accelerating (when i get to about 1700+ rpms i hear it). it does not sound like a leak, too distinct. its not audible when idling and or holding a constant speed. could there be something inside the EGR valve be tapping? is this bad?

This ^^^^ always replace the gasket. It's always a good idea to replace any gasket in your exhaust system when removing and re-installing.

Back in my old Honda I kept getting a system too lean code thrown and it was driving me nuts, I replaced the 02 sensor, dizzy cap and rotor, plus wires, plugs, cleaned the EGR system, clean the IACV, and a billion other things. it took me 6 months of failing emissions due to not being "ready" to finally pinpoint that I had a vacuum leak due to a leaky EGR valve gasket on my intake manifold. $5 gasket later problem fixed and the car passed emissions about 2 days later after it ran through readiness checks.

i thought it was a leak for sure but i put gasket sealer over everything, unless i missed a spot....i guess i can go check again. would i have to order the gasket from toyota or can i get it at an autoparts store?

i couldnt tell you what the sounds like or where that is. its a distinct tapping, like a clicking (my girlfriend even noticed it), doesnt sound like air leaking, only when over 1700+ rpms when accelerating. i was thinking it was something like the egr valve opening and closing rapidly
where is the PCV valve and how would i test that/fix it?
i never had this noise until i cleaned the EGR.

could this just be something due to that it was just cleaned from being stuck open? bad solenoid? i hope it is a leak but i cant feel it when i look for it and only hear this when im accelerating, im getting a new gasket tomorrow though. any other ideas out there?

ok update...so i replaced the gasket and had my g/f hold the truck at 2000rpm and did not hear a ticking noise. drove down the road and heard the ticking noise. then found a small leak in one area around the gasket. i put my finger over it and the rpms jumped up a little. sp i put some gasket sealer over it. if i still hear a ticking noise once that is dry, then it isnt a leak and i am lost on this one. ticking ONLY when driving...

Still have a ticking noise....air leak is pretty much ruled out. I can hear it if I'm in park and rev up the motor. it's only when driving/accelerating. anyone out there who knows more than me, please help me figure out what this could be. no lines are unplugged and all I did was clean the EGR valve to get it in stuck. could it be the valve opening and closing, and nothing actuall wrong?

took out the pcv valve and ran some Seafoam through it. I shook it and could still here the ball inside rattle so that's still good I guess but I highly doubt it's the culprit.

I don't know where or what else to check. or why it's only audible when I'm driving and not when I have someone rev the engine and I look under the hood
