Hope that shift knob isn't connected to the skirt anymore.
When I spun on my TRD knob she dropped her skirt and hasn't pulled it up since.

Everything is looking very promising for the 4th gen manual so far. I hope if it's the same gear box they at least tweaked the ratios. I'll be very curious to see some driving impressions and maybe some day I'll get to try one out myself.

Yup they said you can toggle iMT / stall assist

Also if you get the manual, you get a ton of storage space you don’t have on the hybrid cuz the battery is under the rear seat

And peak torque at 1700 rpm.. instead of 4600..

I don’t think it’s the same gearbox, the Sheldon brown guy mentioned a new bellhousing and a cable. The new bellhousing doesn’t mean much but the cable does. I doubt they reused the same trans and applied cable shifting to it, but I suppose it’s possible. I do hope like you that the ratios are tweaked.

personally I want only 1 OD (.70) and then a better 1-5 spread with 1 being about 4:1 and 5 being 1:1. Nice low R of like 4.5-5 would be great. Hopefully 4.30s still.

if the ratios are good (for V6 also), it would be sweet if we could buy that trans and put our bellhousing on it and roll. But if it’s cable shifted that will be a problem unless our shift tower could somehow still attach.

Wonder if they did anything with the high reverse gear.
Anything more than a gentle slope backwards and its a lot of clutching to reverse unless you go into 4LO (or do the 2LO mod).

I’m reasonably confident there is something about the 4th Gen MT we can agree to dislike :)

Good catch on the cable, hadn't seen that yet.

Honestly after years of ownership, my biggest beef with the 3rd gen ratios is 2nd gear. At least R can be mitigated with the 2LM. The ODs are too close together and I agree only one OD is really needed.

I love how everyone's complaining about the push button start of the manual, like that hasn't been in the off-road premium for the last 3 years already... Come on guys. Lol

Bah still the same ugly knob though. First thing to replace!

Yes, finally! Hopefully remote start and keyless entry too.

Interesting. Didn't they say that they couldn't do pushbutton because of the CSC? Seems they found a solution...

Pro is the high end with the best engine, which for this will be the hybrid. And since no MT on the hybrid, no MT for the Pros. Kind of sad, but understandable I guess.

Did they release the power/torque band info on the new drivetrains? I was wondering if they improved that so you don't have to wind the thing out to get good torque out of it. If they improved that and the gear ratios, I'm going to be awfully tempted.

Huh? No pushbutton on any 3rd Gen MTs, including OR with the Premium package, unless I'm reading wrong what you are trying to get across here.

For those in that market, it appears that they are going BACK to the mentioned Xtra cab, and losing the access doors to the back of the cab. Having had that configuration on my old '90 SR5 wasn't the end of the world, but I'd have loved to have an access door to get to the back. I might be mistaken, but that's what I saw in the video, and if that is the case, I think it's a poor decision on Toyota's part.

Ummm, sorry, that is incorrect, there were exactly zero 3rd Gen Tacomas with manual transmissions produced with a push button start. Personally I prefer the old-school key; we've had two cars now with 6MT and push button start, and I'm so happy my Taco has a key.

A cable shift version of the RC transmission already exists, the RC60J, and sees use in the Hiace Van. The older RA also had a cable shift version that was designed and sold to Porsche for the normally aspirated 911/997 generation.

With a little luck, we’ll see RC60 ratios…. and the parts supply to convert the gen 3 will be USA sourced!

    Ratios:

    • First Gear: 4.784:1
    • Second Gear: 2.423:1
    • Third Gear: 1.443:1
    • Fourth Gear: 1.00:1
    • Fifth Gear: 0.777:1
    • Sixth Gear: 0.643:1
    • Reverse: 4.066:1

Toyota likely kept that dildo shift knob because they saw how many TRD shift knobs they sold. Aftermarket guys will be happy too.

That is great to know. Maybe they will give us those ratios….would keep me from having to go down the Hilux swap road which I pretty much have in the plans but really don’t want to deal with. As long as the input shaft is the right length in the new gen, it would be great. Though I’d prefer the RC61F over the RC60F but I would take either over the RC62F.

that is the only other thing I want to do drivetrain wise since I have 5.29s.

    Nonsense.
When I got my 128i @ 30k shifting felt "notchy" and less than smooth; drained/refilled the tranny fluid - the old stuff was light grey and gross. Once changed, it felt much better/smoother. To this day feels fine @101k now.
Probably time to change it again but zero issues.

All I’ve seen so far is the power & torque number with the rpm it peaks for each drive train

Yeah there’s never been push button on MT 3g tacos. Not sure what @CygnusX191 is smoking.

Since this group has been so helpful.

What motor oil ya’ll running? I am thinking of going to Mobil 1 Extended or Royal Purple performance.

Also thinking of going Amsoil for the trans and diff.
