2015 Tacoma with vibration...does this diagnosis sound correct?

I have a 2015 Tacoma Limited that I've owned for a few weeks. It now has a vibration/rumble that sets in, mostly when cruising at a constant speed. I took it to a Toyota dealership and the technician stated that it's caused by uneven wear on the front tires, specifically in the middle of the tire. I'm just wondering if that sounds correct based on the following symptoms.
    • Mostly occurs when cruising at a constant speed
    • Usually when RPMs are below 2000, mostly 1000-1500 (where the truck usually rests at a constant speed below about 60MPH)
    • When I accelerate the vibration disappears or at least greatly reduces
    • I don't notice it while coasting
    • I don't notice it while idling at a stop whether in park, neutral, or drive
    • Most noticeable 35-50mph but also occurs at lower & higher constant speeds
    • Feel through truck body, seat, and a little through the steering wheel
    • No real noise but can feel vibration/rumble/hum as I let off gas after accelerating
    • It occurs with the tires inflated to 29PSI (recommended on door jamb) or when I inflated with a few extra PSI because the tires looked a little flat to me at 29.
    • There are appears to be no post production lift/wheels.
    • Tires are Goodyear Wranglers with decent tread and correct size per door jamb placard.
    • Example: I accelerate from a stop up to 40MPH then let off the gas and hold my speed at 40. As soon as the RPMs drop and speed/RPM are constant a vibration sets in. This happens both with & without cruise control.

I have a sort of similar vibration around those speeds but don't feel like it's rpm based at all. I don't remember it before I switched to all terrains and different wheels. I plan on getting tpms here soon and getting them balanced again to see if that helps.

Here are photos of the tires.
I had noticed that the rear tires were newer than the front but hadn't noticed that the front & rear had different types of Goodyear Wranglers.

I can’t say if the RPMs really have anything to do with it, I just noticed the correlation. Could be a coincidence. I’ll probably end up replacing the front tires with the same that are on the back. It seems like that should be done regardless, at least to keep all the tires with similar tread & condition.

    Here’s some more information.
There is also a stuck caliper piston and warped rotor. That’s being replaced under warranty from the dealership. I’d think that might cause a vibration like this. We’ll see after the replacement.

central tire wear means they were overinflated.

I think I have a slight vibration at the same speed that you do, when I let off the gas. But I know I have a u-joint issue.

Have you greased your u-joints? Have you tried to switch to 4wd and see if the vibe goes away?

I had warped rotors and it made a huge difference while driving after I replaced them. Same deal with CV Axles. Surprised me.

The mismatched tires can't be helping though.

The Front Passenger looks like the center tread is lower than all others. Like concave.

Neither yet. It’s under a warranty for 2 months/2000 miles so I’m letting them look at stuff for now.

I’m planning to replace the front tires soon though.

I'd also get a front end alignment when you replace the front tires.

It seems there's been quite a few threads on vibration issues lately. Quick simple test, if you have an automatic trans drive it in 4th gear(D then flip lever left) and see if you can duplicate this vibration.

I did try driving a bit in H4 but didn't really notice a difference.

I also tried switching to 4th from Drive. While cruising at 40 I switched into 4th. The RPMs went from about 1250 to just under 2000. The vibration seemed to remain but changed in quality from a lower frequency to a higher frequency. It makes sense but I don't know what to make of it. That doesn't seem like it would be rotor or tire related.

While doing some interstate driving today I experienced a lot of vibrations at various times and speeds. Also during braking, the warped rotor I guess.

I'm getting the front rotors, brake pads, & tires replaced next week. I'm hopeful that will fix the issues to some degree. It's strange I didn't notice any of this during the test drive or or the first couple weeks of driving. It all seemed to come on suddenly and escalate quickly. Warranty is covering most of the brake work.
