I got 17.88 mpg in mixed driving (hwy/city). After I installed my TRD exhaust and TRD cold air intake I got 22 mpg. That was mixed driving too, but I was trying to drive in a manner that would help the mpg.

    271.1 miles and 12.278 gals.= 22.080 mpg Who hoo!

Plus it sounds really good if I do get on it.

I've been getting around 18mpg consistantly for the past 4K miles - a mix of city/highway. Access cab 4.0L.

Is this the first time you've actually checked the gas mileage since you've owned it?

In other words - has it been doing it since you bought it ? Or did it just start getting poor mileage?

its been doing this since i got it. i put a drop in k&n air filter as i figured it would help out a bit but it hasnt. the best milage i have gotten was when i went on a raod trip to oregon from las vegas i got 20 mpg. if this keeps up im trading it in for a wrx sti.

I removed the secondary air filter and saw 3 MPG increase,
Iv'e got an idea that I know works(I did it on my Dakota and it worked GREAT.Still only saw 11MPG.It also worked on my sons VW Jetta )Ram Air right out thru the grill straight to the Airbox.

I've had that mental signpost at 2K RPMs too. Frankly, the truck is still quite peppy even below that, and I can cruise at 70 mph there. But then again, my last truck was a dog. I couldn't even call it a pickup truck because it had no pickup.

For comparison, I'm on my 4th tank of gas right now. I've made 15.5, 17.5, 17.6 mpg on each. Eyeballing where I am now, it'll be around 17.5-18. Totally stock at this point, but my tonneau should come in this weekend.

Dude! That is the suckiest Gas mileage from a Tacoma I've heard of so far. Hopefull this is a fluke or a break in issue.

Mine is getting about 28-29 since I did the secondary air filter mod & turned off the A/C much of the time. :) Of course I have an I4.

Yeah I'm thinking you either have a heavy foot or there is something wrong. I got 16.3 on my first tank and it has been steadily climbing. My last tank was 17.7, mostly city driving with A/C on. Have you had the dealer look at it?

 No kidding? I hadn't heard anything that big or confident. That settles it, you just pushed me off the fence. I'm taking it out this weekend even though I'm still under warranty.

I just passed to 1000 mile mark. I have calculated the mileage for the last three fill ups. I am still getting between 15 and 15.5 mpg mixed city and highway. I sure hope it increases as it breaks in.

no one else has the 15 mpg...that should tell u something. once people learne how to drive the truck to get better gas milage, the got it. if u fill up and drive responsibly(sp), u wont have that prob. keep it under 2k rpm's, no towing, and dont gun it. i guarentee that if u do that, u'll get better than 15. if u want better gas milage, u need to drive accordingly.

i started with 20-21 and now am at 19 with the bigger tires and lift, highway and city combined. Everything else is still stock, no mods. gas mileage depends alot on how you drive. im at 8,500 miles.

well if u dont wanna do what people do to get the mpg's or how they drove to get the tests, then dont complain about getting less. i dont drive like i'm 80 and my truck auto shifts around 1800-2k, and i always get over 18 unless i'm towing. give it a try and see how it is and get the better mpg's. if u still dont like how ur driving to get what ur getting, get less and dont worry about it.

EDIT: PS--i always drive 5-10 over the speed limit and do 75-80 on the highway and still get good mpg. i just dont punch it to get to the next light first.

thats the thing i dont punch it either. im usually not the first one out of the gate at the light. thats why i cant figure out why its getting 15 mpg. if i was lead footing it all over the place i wouldnt be complaining id understand exactly why its getting 15 mpg. but im not ! and hell on the freeway i drive like 70-75 tops.

its not all too hard to get that thing over 2k-2500 rpms through like 2nd and 3rd gear w/o punching it. just watch em and keep em down. keep the rpm's down and the mpgs will go up, i promise
