After driving my 1G XC for over 20 years, fighting stuff in and out of it, now having my 3G AC, waaay too spoiled to go back. It is like Toyota checked off damn near every box for everyone else, and told us AC guys to go fuck ourselves.

I don’t hate the new 4G, don’t love it either….there is a lot going on with all the sheet metal creasing. Trying way too hard. Maybe the truck trend will go from all this chest thumping machismo transformer crap, back to more basic cleaner lines. One could hope, think it is going to get worse before it gets better.

Much preferred when Toyota kept it simple.

One of the 4th gen youtube videos I watched mentioned that the manual will only be available in double cab. Dude could be mistaken, but not looking good.

I don’t think it will swing back. Everyone talks about how they want a new simple truck, but non-fleet sales of SR trims are virtually zero. People buying trucks for themselves nearly always end up making them fancy.

I have mixed feelings about that. If true, it is too bad but on the other hand, the value of my 3G AC 6MT just went up.

Yep, think you’re right. Dunno, my SR has more standard options on it than my 1st Gen TRD OR, which was considered upper trim at the time. Way more stuff on it than I’ll ever use. Those top of the line 4Gs seem overwhelming to me.

Was not happy that I couldn’t get a manual in the SR AC, have to buy a Sport AC to get it, just couldn’t bring myself to pony up the extra cash. Much rather spend it on my main hobby, dirt bikes.

Was already looking at fullsizes before I bought the Tacoma, this new no AC, might push me into one for the next truck purchase. Guess I could be talked into a Tundra, Ford does the rear storage access better though. Flat floor and seat flips out of the way nicer.

I own and drive both a 2004 Xtra Cab and an 2020 Access Cab Tacoma. I love the opening doors of the Access Cab! It definitely makes it much easier to store and remove stuff and is so much better if I have an occasional passenger; especially grandkids. OTH, the 2004 Xtra Cab is incredibly fun to drive when it's just me and my gear because the truck is much smaller than the 3rd Gen Tacoma and the coziness of the cabin makes it ideal to wheel about.

Oh, got it - thanks. Thought it was the configurator for a second. But I think I like the SR (current SR owner here). I wonder if you can get the SR with Xtracab/4x4/6MT/6-foot bed? That's like my dream combo.

You’re welcome. Yeah the configurator isn’t quite up yet.

That would be my dream combo (with an access cab!) at least with the leaf springs it should greatly improve payload, think I read 1700+ lbs somewhere, guessing the 2WD. Probably loose 200-300 lbs with 4WD. Still better than the current trucks.

Anyone else notice a car seat tether in the back of the Xtracab? Putting your kid in the front passenger seat seems a little old school.

In another thread someone mentioned that it is likely a legal requirement to include a car seat anchor point, which would make sense about why it is there.

So is this telling me the SR xtra-cab comes with a 6ft bed and manual trans? Forgive me, I’m a little slow. 36EF4D3F-418F-4E8F-B63E-D0AF2D9166E5.jpg

Those are just the overall options. Does not say whether all of those options are available together. I hope we do get an xtra cab manual though.

    From Car and Driver.

    “Towing and Payload Capacity
Toyota hasn't revealed max tow ratings and payload capacities for all Tacoma configurations, but the automatic-equipped iForce powertrain is rated to pull up to 6500 pounds. Meanwhile, the hybrid iForce Max is capped at a 6000-pound tow rating and can carry a payload of up to 1709 pounds.“

I was so stoked getting the suicide doors on my 3rd gen access cab after having a ‘99 access cab without them. Now they take them away again!!
    Sad face.
