Brake Malfunction Dash Indicators

Yesterday I started up my 2018 and had these indicators displayed and flashing on my dash. The truck seems to drive normal and I don’t know what to do. I tried resetting the ECU hoping it would clear it and fixed this malfunction.

Anybody ever experience this and know what I can do to try and fix it?

 

Did you change something lately? Windshield, suspension, electrical doodads?

 

Nothing went to work as normal. Stopped at my brothers house and when I went to leave it started. It stopped as I pulled over. Drove home when no alerts. Turned it on today and now it’s on all the time. Very strange.

 

Check for a broken wire at the front hubs. Also check related-fuse.

 

Take a trip to auto parts store, ask them to check the code. Autozone or Orileys

 

Check your battery connections and put the battery on a charger. I've seen this on a quasi dead battery.

 

That’s a good idea. I was reading that it could possibly also be the wheel bearing.

Getting this scanned is a must to help narrow this down.

 

Most likely it's a bad wire. Doesn't take much to cut one unfortunately. If it was the bearing, you'd have other obvious symptoms.

When you get all the brake related warning lights on at once it's electrical, not something obvious you're going to be able to see. Either an abs wheel speed sensor, the control module, abs solenoid, or the pump shit the bed.

It's time to run a scan. This is precisely why you should always get a scanner that has ABS bleeding functionality. The cheapo models won't do you any good in this situation.

 

Which one do you recommend getting that can read the ABS?

 

Anything from Innova or Autel that has ABS functionality and fits within your budget. Every model that does ABS will have it all over the item page.

 

So I went to autozone and got the code C1403 rear passenger ABS wheel speed sensor. Checked voltage to sensor and cleaned it up. Reset the DTC and it didn’t work. Bought a new one and cleared code and it didn’t work either.

I don’t understand what it could be then.

 

Pedal commander? Busted taillight/brake light bulb? Aftermarket led taillights ?

 

None of the above. What is weird that it was always dirty when I pulled it out but when I did my check on the driver side it was perfectly clean. Do you think it has something to do with the rotor or bearing?

 

Watch the data as you drive down the road. Did you pull the sensor and verify there’s no junk on it or in the hole. What voltage did you get? Mice and squirrels like to hang out on top of the fuel tank and nibble on the harness that houses the signal wires among other things. As noted above, a battery on its way out can do really odd things to these newer canbus equipped rigs. The fact that your dash lights up with error codes right away has me leaning towards a break in the electrical circuit…i.e. bad sensor or wire. If it was shit in the abs hole the lights would stay off until you start driving. It’s not passing the startup test.

Edit: missed your last post. If there’s a bunch of shit in the sensor hole, pull the axle out and clean/inspect. The abs system, in your case, is completely seperate from the physical brake hardware. Unless your brakes are super f’d and it’s dragging the RR wheel. Jack up the right rear and physically move the wheel up/down/left/right. Any play denotes a bad bearing.

 

fyi not saying thats what it is but when the radar on the grill stops working/shorts/blocked by mudand or snow it turns the abs off. might want to check that too.

 

Although you likely cannot perform all of the following exactly as described, see the attached. You can use any scanner capable of reading speed sensors in lieu of Techstream.

 

Thank you for that. That’s the next step for sure. I plan on checking the wheel bearing. Brakes are not old changed them at year.

 

I took that off first because I read that somewhere also. The radar in the grill is clean and seems to be ok.
