Hey guys, am going to Moab in june and i can only do one, which would be the upgrade that has the highest probability of being used in Moab, re gear or elocker?

my truck is a 2023 sport, OTT tuned with 33s. SSO slimline hybrid metal bumper in front, badlands 12k winch, SSO bed rack, ironman4x4 nomad tent, full size spare and probably another 100-150lbs of gear.

Not looking to do the difficult trails, gonna stick to easy and moderate since this is my first time.

    TIA.

EDIT: forgot to mention, RCI sliders and Ironman4x4 3piece skid plate

You're gonna get a lot of opinions here, but I'd wait to do both of those at the same time. You will be fine as is, just make sure you have enough recovery gear.

You'll be fine as is. Save the $$ and do both at same time as stated.

My first trip to the area was in an OR with 33s back in '19, I could've done the vast majority of stuff without the locker and I certainly wasn't geared.

I agree with others; waiting to do both makes most sense. Time and money aside, my vote goes to the locker because traction is your friend when limits are pushed. I used mine frequently on my recent 1st trip to Moab (Fins and Things, Elephant Hill, Jax Trax and Hells Revenge). I did the Escalator on Hells Revenge and was thankful for the locker. Take your time and pick your lines. You’ll have a blast. Good luck!

ps…hit up Milt’s for burgers and shakes!

^That looks like Hell's Gate, doable with a stock Kia Sorento with good spotting, but can cause a roll with bad spotting (or bad driving).

On Fins and Things your biggest issue is going to be your back bumper hitting the rocks coming down the backside of the steep ups and downs. I highly recommend a hitch skid.

I think you'll be fine on fins...totally fine if you have sliders and a stock hitch to protect the bumper. I see you are on 33's and I'm on 32's...it's only a 1/2" difference to the ground but that will help.

After my trip, I've add a rear high clearance bumper without swingout to my buy list.

That was Escalator on Hell's Revenge. Hell's Gate is more gnarly and I chickened out in fear of messing something up…this was my first time really “off roading” outside of your everyday FS road type stuff. This was a pucker moment for me too! lol

Why don't you just create a get together and go with friends?

Tell you what, I don't think we would've minded a single vehicle going along with our group but we already have like 5-6 trucks with us which was the perfect number.

The one thing I'd be most concerned about is the dude that likes to take off, get stupid on the trails, etc. And that's not to say you'd do that, but that kind of thought is always in the back of one's mind when first having someone tag along.

i'm back, did alot, more than MOAB too and did alot of trails in MOAB.
did joshua tree trail, death valley trail, redwood national park- my tacoma doenst fit the 2400 year tree that has a hole in hte middle hweere those puny elextric cars can pass. lol, did yosemite, sequioa, mt. rainier all the wya to the edge of the USA whidbey island, deception pass- taco rode the ferry from the island going back to mainland in fort townsend. did the oysters at tomales bay, bodega bay in the movie "chec" netflix special episode 1 season 12, it's waaayyyy out there, windy roads, no signal. did bigsur. o.k. o.k. sorry am all over the place.
went up death valley to just outside of vegas (been to vegas multiple times when i was younger) so no need to go into the strip, nowadays i find bars and loud music annoying, went to zion, slept at blm lands throughout, ate at switchback, dont go there pretty expensive, i ordered the mountain trout, just had a nice 28 day aged ribeye at harris ranch coming from yosemite into fresno going to sequioa so didnt 3want steak. early morning went to horseshoe bend, lake powell, antelope valley then work my way back to zion (i know, stupid. shouldve stayed at zion and worked my way down, wasted a day doing the opposite) after i got to zion i worked my way to bryce, passed thru 2 tunnels, beautiful! from bryce i worked my way to escalante petrified forest and stopped by the lake and asked directions from the ranger, they should me a shortcut to capitol reef, dont do it! trail was scary, gravel and sand descending from 6000ft and the road was carved into the side of the mountain, then once u get to the bottom there was no direction or signs, only sign i saw was 33mi to capitol reef visitor center then another desolate traavel to i forgot the name of the tow (i'll have to look at he pics when the euhporia subsides) the lady told me the way i'll be taking will be 5hrs to moab instead of her direction which would only take me 1.5hrs. i took the 1.5hrs, on 2nd thought, i shouldve taken the 5hrs.
got to moab around 7, drove the main street and found a laundry house, i think main street and 100 north where the food trucks are. washed clothes, went to the market in front of gilbirtos (?) (one of the best tacos and burritos i've had, their tripa and linggua were good and this is coming from someone who grew up in orange county, ca. ) yougurt and ice cream palce aplenty along the ain street. went back where i came from and head north on that hwy beside lions park, drove 3 campsites and found an empty spot along the colorado river and set up camp. early morning i did the onion creek trail, wasnt as scary as teh trail i did from escalante to capitol reef (ok just remembered teh trail is burr switchback trail from escalante to capitol reef), anyways, took onion creek all the way i dont know where (got lost again, i figured if the trail ends i 'll turn aorund) somehow, i ended up at fisher towers. went back to town, went to arches and they wont let me in, need reservation. i went to potash road, took pics of the petroglyphs , went all the way to the nd of the road where it says private property and turn around as it was getting dark. i figure i'm outside the national aprk so i flew my drone and took pics with the baja designs led bar turned on, looks great (to me). went back to arches as the ranger said i could comeback after the aprk clsoes, went everuwhere except devils garden. even went on the 4x4 trail that takes u to delicate arch, cant get clsoe though, they clsoed the rest of the trail. went back to my spot the night ebfore, cooked dinner and set up camp.
anyways, i want to make it short and will post pics with comments/background of how i got to the trails, did shafer trail (scary, burr trail- was the same but without the reward of the potash pools at the end and the "baby" horshoe bend at the end of the trail, did white rim, about 40miles only, trail is 84mi and need a permit, permit is free. chicken corners, hurrah pass, deadhrose point, i was all over the place. was like a kid in a candy store. made my way down to mexican hut, valley fo the gods- yes i did the trail but it sucked, i was heading west on the trail while the sun was setting, cant take a good picture because facing into the sun, 2nd thought i shouldve tyaken the state park road and head east with the setting sun behind me for better quality pics but another reason for me tog et back, anyways down to monument valley, set up camp and just as the sun peeked at the valley iw as there to take a few pics of the sun glowing thry monument valley with my tacoma, they wont elt me fly a drone, i asked. then made my to the 4 corners monument then to santa fe and now back home in florida.
i have full self recovery on my truck, garmin mini2 just in case, extra fuel on jerry cans, so i can afford to be lost.

    my advise?

GET LOST, discover, the road always ends in a town somewhere just make sure u can self recover and plenty of fuel.

    Excellent
Glad to see you had a good time.

I went to Moab last March with a group of WI TW folks and one person from Illinois and and 1 from Colorado. We had a blast. We did Gemini Bridges, Long Canyon, Fins + Things, Seven Mile Rim, Hells Revenge. Attempted Top of the World. Snow made it difficult. Next Time.
For Poison Spider I parked the Taco and rode copilot. Next time.
On our last day we did Picture Frame Arch, did that while it was snowing.
I did get a locker installed about 2 months before going out there.
