I had a look at the models at this link below. Just scroll down if you want to check them out. Looks like options for XTRA cab models with 4x4 are going to be SR5 and SR. I’ve been running TRD Offroad Access cab since 2016 with a 2016 and now a 2020. I don’t think I will be able to afford the new TRD Offroad in double cab so it it will be SR or SR5 for me. Or keep my 2020. I love the new truck though. From my experience of having 2010, 2014, 2016 and 2020 Tacomas the locker and MTS have been some of the most effective parts of this truck for my off-roading (at stock).

If I’m wrong please correct me…

do you think the SR will be 4x4 or two wheel drive only?

I guess the trailhunter is 4 door 6’ bed only? Hard to tell for sure. IF I was able to buy a new one I would also want to stick with an access cab (which is now xtra cab? But only 2 doors now instead of 4?).
I think access/xtra cab people are in the minority unfortunately. Everyone wants a 4 seater. :/

trail hunter will be double cab but with 2 choices of bed length

5 feet or 6 feet (you get the chase racks)

seems like it would have to be a gen change to bring back that type of thing. Someone else talked about all that goes into the structure of the access cab vs extra cab and supporting no b pillar and that seems like it would a lot to deal with if it’s true.

I think the access cab crew must be pretty small nowadays for them to ditch for what seems like would be an essential feature for that cab style.

I know I love my AC OR a little bit more…

Yeah, I definitely wouldn’t be surprised. The AC crew is much smaller I’m sure. I’ve always had access cab but I knew that this Gen might get rid of it. In Canada for 2023 they only had the TRD OR available for access cab. The SR5 and SR were not available for that cab when I looked on the website to check how much the prices have went up.

I got really lucky when I bought, I just kept looking but I was sold on one truck, and when I found it and got it the way I did, I was surprised it all worked out. I love my AC, and I’ve had extra cab Tacoma / Ranger and 4Runners since early 90s, it’s too hard not to see my 3rd gen as kind of the last old school truck platform by Toyota.

the 4th gen is cool, just seems like almost a different beast altogether.

I’m happy they are offering a 6MT but only available in soccer mom cabs? Plus they neutered the Access Cab to XtraCab and can’t even get that in a TRD Trim?

My 87 was an extra and 97 access cab, those didn't open and it was a pain to get anything back there, when that door opened it was a game changer and now its gone. hmmm...
