Now that the '24 has been shown, consensus on how the '23 and 3rd gen resales will be affected?

There’s going to be a flood of 3rd gens on the used market initial dropping the price, after a year or two it’ll rebound.

 

I'm not buying a 3rd gen, but I don't think I was buying one before I saw the 4th gen. I still haven't seen a XC 4th gen which is the only configuration I'm interested in outside of the Trail Hunter or maybe another DCLB model, but a 2 seat Tacoma is what I would want. I still like the 3G, specifically the SR package. I'm in my 2nd non Toyota truck since 2020, and my regular cab frame isn't swiss cheese yet. Definitely in no hurry to get into a 4th gen, until Toyota announces they are discontinuing the Xtra Cab. I still like 1st & 2nd gen RC out of all the Tacomas.

I think this is an accurate assessment. That down low power of the turbo will win over a lot of people if it proves efficient and reliable.

I really hope Toyota gets it right. The 4th gen looks great. I always thought the 3rd gens were "meh" looking. Hopefully they can get all this new tech right.

Yup I agree. I have had high resale cars such as an 05 jeep wrangler and a 14 challenger. I made a lot of money on both when I sold them. The Jeep was 2 generations old when i sold it for north of 15 grand about 4 years ago. Also the new ones will cost a lot more making another case for it still being in the high resale category. I love the new ones but not enough to ditch my almost paid for 2022 Taco with only 5 thousand miles on it that I have sunk a fortune in. A lot of folks will want to stick to a V6 has been mentioned a lot. And last....I would never by a first model year. Did that once and I'll never do that again. If my current Taco was ever wrecked or stolen I would get 2024 tho...

You'll pay a lot for the truck with all that offroad spec gear, to throw it away to buy heavier duty stuff that will stand up to where the trucks are made to drive.

My '21 OR, I've tossed the both bumper and stock suspension, then added skid plates. it came with the Toyota promoter "Bilsteins", but they are bottom of the barrel Bilsteins. What of the Fox and ARB stuff on the '24's?

 

I traded in my 22 SR (4 cyl 2 wd) for a 23 OR (all bells and whistles) last month. My feelings about it were that the 24 would be higher priced and it would have some issues that will take some time to clear up. With the 23, I knew what I was getting.

 

Frankly, the Gen 4 is pretty much what I expected it would be, mini trunda, 4 wheel disc brakes, turbo 4 banger. Hate the interior, looks like the guy that designed the FJ Cruiser interior was brought out of retirement and is an old drunk. I’m sure lots of people are really happy with it and that’s fine, just doesn’t float my boat.

 

I've seen some trucks that the dealer has had for quite sometime now, are dealers holding on to traded Tacomas as an asset. What's the motivation to pay more than MSRP for traded unit? Sure there could always be somone who comes along and pays what it takes to make the dealer a profit on what they paid on the trade.

Seems like a risk on the dealer's end, less risk when that vehicle is a Tacoma, and more so when it's a Pro.

 

Pros in the special color are still commanding a premium around here. Literally when I was picking up my Pro, the dealer sold a 22 Pro Electric Lime for 60k. Go figure.
