Congrats on getting thru the 5yrs of payments without a hiccup. It's not what you make, it's what you keep. Saddled for 5yrs is crazy to me. Learned early on if you can't pay for it, you don't need it. Impressing the neighbors, pleasing the wife or ego is a hard way to go.

Despite the low miles, she's my daily. I just don't drive that much. I am fortunate to work from home so the truck only goes out to drop the kiddo off at school, then back home.

I agree, but payments are not necessarily always bad and the Dave Ramsy mentality only gets you so far. I financed the truck at the best possible time and put 20% down. Driving off the lot I already had equity in it, and COVID kept the resale prices high.

I agree with you, many people do spend what they don't have and/or don't think responsibly about vehicle purchases. Not the case here.

    Cheers!

Thanks for all the comments! This truck has treated me well and has been a blast to drive and tinker on thanks to this forum!

I definitely wouldn’t get a new one with that low of miles. Keep it till it goes no more!! Put the amount you were paying in savings then you can pay cash for the next truck unless it’s 0% Apr then you pay the note from your savings and you keep drawing the interest.

    FWIW, I did this twice:
    - car/motorcycle payments were a modest weekly deduction from my paycheck to the credit union
    - when [x] was paid off I was accustomed to the slightly lighter take home and just let it ride; the $ now going direct to the CU savings account.
    - time goes by I need a new whip; Bam! I Was able to put 50-75% down and new payments were <$50/wk for only 3 years.
    - it was awesome. (Gotta get back on that since I have no payments now… but like always there is a need for the $ elsewhere )

I paid mine off a year ago with a four year loan from my credit union at 1.69%, which the finance idiot at Manhattan Beach Toyota simply would not believe and, to my enjoyment, totally pissed him off. Now that was free money to me as I made way more than that in the stock market during that time. Got seven months to go on the Forester and then all three are free and clear. Granted, I did pay cash for the 911 back then so no loan on that.
