Rear diff not engaging.

Thanks for heads up . I believe your right. Been awhile since I took of my first gens , but if I remember right there was a certain way to put it back on as you mention.

Finally had some time to removing e locker. As tnshooter and a few other mentioned it was the breather line or vent. Inside of my locker was trashed. Much worse than i thought it would be. Did a complete tear down. Cleaned it up best i could. But still not working.

 

Was crazy how that little hole created so many problems

 

Side note, between the locker and the axle housing was a good bit of rust starting. I treat my truck with fluid film on regular basis. I have really tried to spray that area well because of the issues with my first gen. Was able to take that one off and rebuild the plate that gets destroyed because of salt. Mite have to do something different with that area like por 15 as i see many guys use that on here. Lots of salt where i live. Anyone in salty areas mite want to pull theirs off and inspect just to make sure your not headed for bigger issues.
When i try and ingage, it is still clicking under passenger side dash, the actuator does nothing. I checked the fuse, it was good and reg 4x4 still works.

Did you bench test the actuator to see if it works? It may be beyond saving.

 

I did not bench test it. Was hoping it was gona be something simple to fix. Didnt look into testing it that way. Will have to research that and give it a shot but honestly i think its to far gone. All 4 magnets were loose also. Mite need to epoxy those back in place. When i opened it up and saw how bad is was i didnt think it would work. But figured since i had it off id try.
I am looking at other options now. Possibly finding one in scrap yard.

 

Better check the hoses on the 4wd actuators too, they can do the same thing.

 

Thank you for heads up. Will check those soon. I do hear a strange noise when engaging 4 lo that my truck has never had before.

 

Good to know. I always soak mine down in FF at least once a year. But that salt / calcium shit the DOT uses is relentless

 

Very true. I think the other issue is the tight space between the rear diff housing and the e locker itself.
