Cancelling 3rd Gen MT allocation deposit due to 4th gen MT

6MT PRO 3Gen rules. Now for '24 you have to have an ugly sport at best to get an MT (-Without the option of the best engine available...)

 

Yeah sure, the 4th gen TRD off road will blow away a 3rd gen pro in every aspect. The automatic transmission will also most likely be a massive win. The 3rd gen is a transition vehicle, way too many sacrifices in way too many areas.

get ready for the flood of used 3rd gens on the market when that truck is released … get out while the values are still ridiculously bloated

Too much unknown with the 4th gen to tell for sure. But if I know Tacoma owners, they’ll find something to bitch about. Anyways, I’m keeping my 3rd gen till at least the 3rd year of production of the new 4th gen.

 

Plus there’s absolutely no way, no fucking way, that production keeps up with demand.

 

How not? Every other company has full truck lots and the production is close by in Mexico. Most likely Toyota hasn’t produced near its capacity recently. You can believe they will be producing tons of Tacomas just like pre pandemic.

Im actually happy with my 3rd gen. Even though at first I was blown away by the changes to the 4th. I bought it because my 2nd gen was coming up on 300k and I sold it for $3500 less than what I bought it for 230,000 miles earlier(I scored like 5k under current market value when I bought).

For a truck that gets used to go on trips, reliability is everything to me. I wouldn’t buy a 1st through 3rd year vehicle after prior experience and watching similar issues with the 3rd gen. I doubt I’d buy a brand new one either. That has always worked for me….

 

agreed, I’m guessing the pro and trail master(haha) will be 80k…

anyone hear any info on the mpg or retail values? The info I saw looked like 56k for the pro. That can’t be right, being that the 3rd gens sold for what they did… and had way less goodies in it…

 

Toyota in general doesn’t produce at their capacity. You can’t compare toyota to ford in that regard. Toyota and ford have a very different production strategy.

 

Pre Covid Tacomas we’re all over the lots, it’s a volume business.

 

because I can probably sell it for what I paid for it…not necessarily gaining value, but it hasn’t lost value…the use and memories I’ve had with it have made it gain value to me

 

Im happy with my 3rd gen after dumping a ton of money into it and getting it tuned, but out of all the generations of tacomas so far i think it will go down as the worst.

 

I’m changing my vote, 3rd Gen will hold or go up, 4th Gen to much crap stuck to them, trailhunter looks dumb with that headache rack.

 

I wonder how much of the new tech offering with the 4th gen to go to a subscription process in order to keep it?

I started listing out the pros and cons...

...and you know what, other than the fact that I love the 3G interior, I am mostly just salty that they apparently improved a lot where it counts, but as usual I can't get the combination I want, so I am going to wind up having to agonize over what compromises I want so I am pretending to prefer my 3G while knowing deep down that the big argument is if I should ditch now while I can get what I paid for it back and eat the sales tax, or drive it and eat depreciation while I wait what is probably going to be about a year for the hysteria to die down a bit in hopes of paying MSRP, all the while whining on TacomaWorld in unapologetically long run-on sentences to people I don't know in an effort to talk this out with someone other than my wife who just says "I don't know, do what you want" but she actually means it because I 100% handle the finances and doesn't really grasp how stupid this all is, but also doesn't help in the sense of not having any voice of reason to bounce ideas off of so here we are, screw you Toyota, and your little trucks too; can you please direct me to the line?

The one thing they knocked out of the park was making the Pro/Trailhunter so over the top that even if they weren't MT-less, they aren't even on the radar for me, regardless of price. Their mistake was making the MT available in the lower trims while offering the same drivetrains so I may actually wind up with an SR/SR5..ya know it seems unlikely but I may actually be able to escape this laterally.
