Did a pretty deep search and couldn't find an answer. Hoping the experts here can help.

The black door trim - between the front and rear windows - on the passenger side of the Taco we purchased a few months ago has a stain... bird poo I'd guess. Finally got around to trying to remove it. Used all sorts of cleaners and finally took my polisher and some cutting compound after it. Shined up the black nicely, but zero effect on the mark.

    Thoughts? Links? TIA!

EDIT: Skip to this post for the part numbers.

I believe it is a sticker so could remove and replace.

Yeah it's just a piece of vinyl. Lots of folks just peel them off. That said, since your truck is several years old, you may have some discoloration.

Good to know. I like how they look and wouldn't like any discoloration, so I guess I'll go in search of replacement part numbers. They seem pretty well attached. Hope it's not a big R&R chore.

    Thanks!

    Agreed, great stuff otherwise.

A sticker... hmmmmm... that leaves all sorts of possibilities! Think I'll stick with just replacing it. Boring, I know.

It being vinyl I am not sure this would work, but a very light abrasive like toothpaste or baking soda and water may help; quite possibly could ruin it too though. Then follow it up again with the Back to black to really tell it "that's all I got".

Good idea, but still no go. The paint cutter with the buffer and everything else just made it kind of shiny. At least I know it can stand up to a lot! :p Damn birds! :annoyed:

You could also just order a roll of matte black vinyl and DIY it. Having a whole roll would allow plenty of material to practice and mess up with. :D

I could be wrong but I'm not sure you'll be able to find a part number or buy replacement vinyl "decals" from Toyota. Also, I don't know if this is true but I've heard the decals were a late add by Toyota to hide paint damage to the door pillars that occurred during production. A lot of people have removed them and the paint is fine...some found scratches.

Good advice. Hadn’t heard that about the paint. If/when I remove it I’ll report back.

just get some quotes for local vinyl shops, you'd probably want them to do at least one side (both doors) so it matches.

    Thanks for your insight.

People are suggesting going to vinyl shops or self-cutting vinyl. This is going to be a crapload cheaper and/or faster than either of those options, I suspect. Coupon YOTA10 knocks off a few bucks.

If you're a smoothskin kind of guy, they also appear to sell those.

    Interesting about this...

Since I have Midnight Black, there is no split color on my doors.
