I'm not mad about this at all. I like the solid cab design, I'll admit that rear access door are a very convenient feature. Will be interesting to see what Toyota does with Hilux in this configuration. Less stringent crash standards in those markets, carry over cab design will be a cost savings. How much demand is there for rear doors is the question, it's probably not make or break in global market Hilux sales.

I chose the Super Cab over a regular cab 8' box mostly for the STX trim and 3.73 rear locker which I could live with out. The added interior space can be usefull, but I went from crew to extended cab. Some days I still think I should have went regular cab.

If Toyota wants to keep the XC viable latter in the 4G life cycle it will have to at least get a passing grade in the more stringent future crash standards. I could see that as being a legit concern, I still think rear doors add utility to the cab. Toyota could have easily stayed the segment leader with only a DC configuration, at least they kept some form of extended cab pick up, and it's a true two seater. My favorite part of the utility package, and 5G Ranger XL SC w/rear seat delete.

Doubt it. It probably has more to do with cost.

If you guys have something big and heavy, why don't you set it in the bed?

I've always had access/extended/king cabs and the back seat is for stuff like hunting packs, rifles, jackets, tire chains etc. This seems perfect for that.

It’s a bummer because I swore they had mentioned that the Prerunner was available with either trans , just RWD only. That would’ve been great.

Had a few regular cabs over the years, and rented a few after owning extra cabs, don’t think I could back, too spoiled with that extra space. Ford does rear storage quite well on the Super Cabs, can’t imagine those will go away on the fullsizes, stranger things have happened though!

Love the access cab, so a little miffed…though at the end of the day, not huge issue since my truck is only 1.5 years old with 30K miles on it, plenty of life left in it, and no real hurry to buy another anytime real soon. It will be interesting what they do with the ‘24 HiLux, we will see.

Though when it comes time to buy a new truck, after all these years of waiting for some major changes on the Tacoma. Most likely won’t by another, and will go full-size. Since the access cab is gone, the Tacoma DCLB doesn’t make sense to me, at that point might as well move to a full-size. Rear leg room on the F-Series Super Cab is darn near the same, plus get a 6.5’ bed that is wider. Or better yet get an 8’.

F-150 SC 6.5’ bed kinda does it for me. Was super close in buying one over my current Tacoma. However Toyota was able to get me a truck faster than Ford. That and being a long term Toyota owner for 30+ years, was hard to jump ship. No access cab is a deal breaker. Not that it matters much to Toyota, they’ll sell every last one of them.

I do. Real big heavy stuff I use a trailer.

Use the access daily for work stuff and groceries. Shiiiiit used it this morning on the way in to work, and had to swing by the grocery store on the way home. Opened up my driver’s side clamshell and immediately thought how dumb the ‘24 xtra cab is. Damn glad I have an AC.

Camping toss totes and my dirt bike gear bag back there. Did that in ‘99 extra cab too, but it was pain in the ass. Even with the passenger seat slid all the way forward, the gear bag was a tight fit. The new folding passenger seat in the ‘24 will be better, but I would be pissed after spending probably $40K+ OTD every time I had to walk around to the passenger side to toss stuff in, especially after owning an AC. As vehicles improve every generation, there are supposed to gain convenience not loose it.

I prefer the 13g styling over the 14g styling cleaner design outside and I like the interior beter not that either has changed much. I was going to wait and see what the 24s look like, but between SD and Ranger redesign I decided to go with the 23. 24 STX will probably get LED headlights, but STX went up $5k on SD and added more cameras which are probably beneficial when towing.

Wonder why it's suddenly become a safety issue
Almost seems like an attempt to push buyers into a 4 door. I don't know, better profit margins on 4 doors?

It just seems like if that was the case they'd just only offer one cab like GMC, Chevy, Jeep, and Ford(?).

Yeah maybe your right. I'm not buying the crash test explanation though.

Man I already miss trading in my 6MT access cab (had a baby) and now I miss it even more knowing they don’t make the half door. Unless I’m on baby duty, the rear seats in my DC are always folded down for tools. That half door was so useful.

I used it and the front door half open to make a private room to piss when I was on the side of the road too lol.

Do like the exterior on the 14G better, grill is less of a cod piece. Interior isn’t bad either, does one design team work for all the manufacturers?? seems like the bar across the middle of the dash is the thing now.

At about minute 3:30. The guy is having a bit of a hard time reaching back there over the folded passenger seat. So it doesn’t flip forward out of the way I am guessing?

    Interesting article.

"The only models that’ll be available as XtraCabs will be the Tacoma SR, SR5 and TRD PreRunner. These trucks will also miss out on getting the new multi-link rear coil suspension — instead featuring the usual rear leaf spring suspension. That’s understandable, though a bit unfortunate for those who prefer a two-door Tacoma with a long bed as an overland or off-road platform to build upon." BFD :jerkoff:

"But the mere fact that a new manual-transmission, two-door long-bed Tacoma is still around is good — a refreshing bit of stubbornness on Toyota’s part." Please be true.

So…is this extra cab only availability in 2wd? :gossip:

    was hoping for a manual 4wd ac….
The new truck looks good so far.. and with a general proven engine/trans should be good to go from takeoff
