OP checking in. Been absent a long time but saw the news of the MT in the 4th gen and figured I better drop in and celebrate with all of you.

What @Shellshock said with the torque numbers is music to my ears!

My worry is that the manuals will still be unicorns and that most metropolitan dealers will tack on a premium (extra charge) above MSRP. You can't find a manual in the greater Los Angeles area without $5k+ over MSRP.
Probably still won't find a 2WD manual either...but hoping Toyota turns a corner on this.

That’s just what I’ve seen so far. I don’t really believe anything 100% until I see the brochure from Toyota.

I was unclear on the release info. Can you get the manual in the Pro and Trailhwak? Or just in the TRD offroad?

Sport and off-road is it I think. The pro and trail hawk have the hybrid power train only.

That's perfect for me. There will likely be better suspension options for far less than what the trailhawk and pro will be. It will be interesting to see the price of the offroad MT.

And the sway bar disconnect is awesome! Did anyone hear if the offroad has the wider wheelbase? I hope not. They keep making my small trucks bigger and bigger.

The wider track width seems to only be trailhunter and pro.

I wonder how the long term reliability of the turbo will be. Turbos seem to be the trend. At least the displacement of 2.4L seems good, and that Toyota still offers the manual transmission with the Tacoma. Some new vehicles have very small displacement turbo engines for the vehicle size.

Y'all keep forgetting. The SR will also have a 6-speed manual

It's trail hunter, not trailhawk. This isn't a Fiat.

Toyota have been doing reliable turbos for 50 years. These will be just fine.

Trail Hunter and possibly pro will have a 3-in wider track. Unclear if other ones will have that as an option or not.

I’m not worried. If you fall down the rabbit hole of toyota turbo development, the entire thing is super overbuilt

It will be interesting to see the SR manual pricing. That may be a great platform to build from.

Probably as obtainable as an MT Corolla used to be.

I think a turbo will be a problem with reliability and longevity. The more complex something is, generally you lose reliability and longevity.

What makes you think turbochargers are complex? Compared to an engine, turbochargers are stone-tool simple.

Turbos themselves aren't complex, but they add more complexity to other systems like pcv and vacuum pumps to operate peripherals, which makes it less reliable.

All those things already exist on our non-turbo engines.

Turbos are pretty commonplace technology at this point. Nobody really bats an eye at a diesel with 300k on it anymore and those turbos work a lot more than they would in something like a taco.

Plus, this is Toyota. It's always five years behind in features and "coolness" but makes up for it in exceptional reliability.

This is true, Toyota will do well with a gas turbo, I've had Chevys that weren't so good, 125K and it's done.
