I am disappointed in this new generation of trucks by Toyota both the Tacoma and the Tundra. It is as if they only listened to those people who weren’t Toyota truck fans or owners, such as the car reviewers and magazines. The YouTubers who have a Truck for a build but not to live with. It is truly unfortunate how they done away with things that made Toyota trucks great. I didn’t want start/stop, I didn’t want turbos to get the same or less mpg, I didn’t want a digital dash, I didn’t want Tacoma not made in Texas. I wanted better seats and adjustment, I wanted usable outlets, a bigger gas tank. This Colorado/Tacoma makes me sad

I also heard you can’t fit in the rear seats with the TRD Pro Baja seats, they’re so big they take all the rear leg room. This is why they won’t let YouTubers review the rear of the TRD Pro

I maybe an old fart, but that 14 inch display is hideous! How many accidents will that cause? I’ll take a model with the smaller screen. I guess the design is a competition with other auto manufacturers.
So sad Toyota is sliding into this theme.

What is your thought process on bigger screen = more accidents? Many screen/entertainment features are locked out during driving.

Is that handle at the center console for an ejection seat? That screen looks bigger than my wife's Tesla....I don't know...quite a bit of do dads. Looks like the cockpit of one of vessels from Guardians of the Galaxy!

I agree the huge screen is hideous.

If Toyota just had to use a screen that big, they should have made it lower in the dash! The air vents could be on top of the screen---possibly lowering the buttons and knobs a bit. The screen would integrate soooo much better that way.

That start button trim ring looks very hard to replace... could be a deal breaker for some.

My thought on the bigger screen is it looks terrible, and some features are not locked out, text messages for an example just my opinion. This is not an argument, just an opinion ‍

Tundras can handle big screens better than in a small taco. It looks ridiculous and you are stuck with it and the repair cost when it goes out. No upgrading to new stereo heads anymore.

The purpose and function of the Tesla screen is to reduce all the buttons and doodads that crowd a traditional vehicles dashboard, etc. and move them to a central control spot. (Wife drives a 2018 Tesla Model 3)
What is the point of that giant screen on the new Tacoma while still having all the buttons and gadgets cluttering the truck cabin otherwise? The screen is there just to placate the gadget crowd? Don't get it sorry.

I know Toyota considers it a "downgraded" screen on the lesser-model Tacoma, but the smaller screen looks much more at home in the new truck!

Although it seems Toyota did make it bigger than it had to be, with plastic areas on both sides of the smaller screen.

Make them all this size (with super-high resolution!), and integrate them lower into the dash, with the air vents above.

Safety requirements are probably why the auto companies are putting the ridiculously-large screens up high on the dash. The government knows drivers will be looking at the screen and interacting with it (radio, hvac, etc.) while driving, so they are very close to your eye's driving level.

Although still dangerous to do, it's safer to keep your vision level, and just move your eyes sideways to see the screen, versus sideways-and-down....and thus "taking your eyes off the road".

Maybe after statistics prove enough accidents due to their use, we can get some common sense back to the size and integration of in-car touchscreens.

    My 2 cents...

Where is this information coming from? I've never seen a car where you can access text messages while driving.

I'm so glad you did as well. Not sure why you would think it would be bigger. That would negate the need for a Tundra.

Anyone know if they're able to remove that thing and install something else? Kinda like a head unit swap? I know nobody has had this in their hands, but maybe they've done it on another type of vehicle and have some insight?

    Seriously ?
Many autos do this. Android auto does it in mine.
    Highlanders do it also.
Those screens are a big distraction.

Ya it dictates the text, I’ve never seen the message displayed on the screen, unless stopped.
