My wife recently traded her 2019 Avalon for a 2023 Crown Platinum and I'm pretty sure the multimedia system on the 2024 Taco is going to be the same. In short, it sucks. It's cloud based with one year of free service. After that, you subscribe or lose many functions. Everything is done through a cloud service. Ask it with the "Hey Toyota" voice command and it responds with "The network is busy, try again later"......100% of the time I've tried. Internet research reveals this is a common issue. Navigation defaults are missing or have to be done through the Toyota app on your cell phone. Android Auto defaults to some strange podcast each time you restart the car, so annoying that we deselected Android auto on our cell phones until Toyota service figures that out.
But...one nice thing. The camera resolution is fantastic. So clear that you can read street signs in the display.

You have a keeper. An all new truck doesn’t make yours less outstanding, and for the first couple years at least, yours may actually be the more reliable truck.

Besides all that, Toyota dealers spent last year marking up and ripping off Gen3 Tacoma buyers. How do you think they’ll behave with this all new truck?

    100% hold ‘em.

The camera I’m sure will be a much needed upgrade. The camera on my 2017 Legacy is better than the Taco, which surprised me. But, you gotta save money somewhere and that’s not a bad place to save it. I just think a truck in the $50k OTD range should have a decent camera system.

…But I’ll happily keep it if the alternative is what @grandpawmoses is describing. Everything is going to subscriptions and virtual assistant BS that works a fraction of the time, so I’m sure the 4G is going to be exactly like that.

As I said, I’ll see where we’re at in 2026.

    Good Intel Moses.

A buddy of mine has made a good living off those older ford turbos. They run into big bucks for maintaince once your in that 100k mile range. Yeah, smaller engines with turbo's are being pushed, but at the owners cost. Its like pay me now, or pay me more much later.

Just simply not the case, go look at the civics with turbos now. Everybody complained and worried about the same thing - they’re bullet proof.

my Golf TDI has original turbo, 240k miles

And said buddy is generally only working on the ones that have issues, which would be why the came to him in the first place.

Exactly! Probably more like the last 18 months. I got my truck in May of 2021 for $2,500 below MSRP. By the time I went back to the dealer for my first service they had 10% market adjustments added to the MSRP and haven't stopped since.

I really love the new 4th gen, but am still quite content with my '17 and dont see a need to change. Maybe, just maybe if the 4th gen came in a Quicksand, I'd might consider......

Idk, about smaller cars. plus these are the full size ford trucks, Honda usually has their chit together vs ford.

This new 2.4 turbo engine hasn't proved itself to the buying public yet. Toyota has done great in the past, hybrids seem good since 90s. Formula 1 v6s hydrids have done well also. Think I will sit back back at least first yr. Demand might make it easy to do.

Absolutely this. SOURCE: My 2023 Tundra behaves the EXACT same way.

I think the 14" screen is wasted, you can't "partition" it in any way like Entune can. You either have a ginormous map, OR a SiriusXM screen, OR a phone screen... Navigation between them is an icon bar to the left. Definite road hazard to use.

The good news is that when these subscriptions run out I plan to tell Toyota to stuff their subscriptions and use the wireless Android Auto. It works like a champ, except for that weird "what's new" box I can't seem to get rid of crapping up my screen.

Told you guys in 2019 that you were going to miss Entune 2.0...

i vote to sell and buy the '24.

but i've got some good news and bad news. bad news first: since the announcement, all used truck prices have entirely tanked. the best i can offer for your '21 is $10.

good news: i'll get a pretty nice truck for $10.

    Uh, no.

I could probably sell it today for darn near what I paid for it. Maybe more. My Vette is still worth more than I paid for it.
