Turbo/Hybrid good for longevity and reliability?

es that’s what I’m getting at. The cost to change a Tacoma battery could it be likely less given different chemistries. I for one am looking forward to this new truck option. I think it’s great.

 

What will be happening with all the old batteries when their toast? Landfill???

 

They are recycled or reconditioned.

AS far as I recall Toyota have been using NiMh since the 1997 Prius. The BZ4x I think is the only use of Lithium cells.

 

I"m not sure, but there's higher energy density in Lithium than Nimh. But they are heavier than Lithium.

 

Shorter life cycle than lithium, so cost is offset.

Nope mine is $2500. Mine is a Hev which the Tacoma will be a ev has more batteries.

 

Buddy of mine has a early 2000s turbocharged Jetta approaching 400k miles. Original engine and turbo. He changes his oil every 3k miles with the cheapest oil he can buy but it works, the rust will be what takes that car out. It already put a hole on the trunk. Good clean oil will keep them going forever, not the 10k mile interval nonsense.

 

that, but see Tundra turbo waste gate problem, some things are just poor design and bound to fail no matter how you maintain it.

as far as we know, the turbo 4 on Tacoma uses vacuum waste gate, much simpler and should be relatively more reliable than Tundra's electronically actuated waste gate

 

I helped replace my friends Prius battery wasn’t too bad actually, we bought a reconditioned battery for 1.5k, his Prius is about to hit 300k that thing is a shit box. They took the old battery as a core to be recycled.

His brother has an accord with a turbo and cvt which is about to hit 120k should I tell him to sell before both automatically fail at 150k miles? (For some reason turbo/hybrid /cvt bashers are under the assumption that these automatically fail at 150k)
