Hey guys, when you set up the limit straps, how much room should I leave between the upper arm and the coil? I was thinking about a finger's width, but wasn't sure how much flex the straps have.

 

I don’t measure in fingers usually haha. But mine is set up to where they almost touch 3/16” ish. Just make sure when you have the full weight of the spring, knuckle, and tire that the upper ball is not maxed out and steering is not maxed out. Also depending on where you have the lower arm cams set,
Pushed in all the way it or out all the way can also make that gap change very slightly which is why I wouldn’t use the finger method. The rough number on strap stretch is 1” of stretch per foot. But i set the straps up differently on an ifs rig vs solid axle rig. Lastly, don’t just set the tabs in the same place and weld them, set them up both separately with the full weight of everything on both sides if your not using an adjustable clevis, because the straps length can very 1/8” or so.

 

I didn't even consider the lower arms. So, future alignments could, potentially, change the contact point? I'll factor all of that in, thanks.

 

Not a ton, but say you had the lower pivot kit, and you had the cams flipped around in the wrong spot, that number would affect that measurement a lot more. Probably won’t change the limit strap much. It’s just something to consider when talking about the gap between the upper cup and spring.

 

just wondering if people are cutting the front cross member nub thingy off before installing the skid after installing the lower arm pivot kit. its hanging lower than my skid mounts now...

some sawsall through it for enough clearance, I ground off the welds so it looks like it was never there.

Speaking of clearance. I found what was making the most horrible sound from the low end. Fumoto valve was making contact with the pivot skid and wore enough paint away to create a rattle that sounded almost like rod knock. I’ll have to get a valve without the nipple.

 

But that’s the factory jack point. How will you jack your truck off now?!

 

More work with the truck.
Front hangers off, and man; them front rivets being a pita to knock out. Otherwise. started mocking up the frame braces and getting all the frame notches done.

 

More work aka actually working on it for the first solid day in a few weeks.
But yeah one side is basically modified and mocked up easy to mirror to the other side. Maybe get to cycling things next weekend

 

mine was actually interfering with the skid from the start, I cut off the nipple with a 4.5" cutoff wheel. And cut a hole in the skid so I can barely reach in, open the valve, and drain the oil without removing the skid. Very happy I did that, recommended.

 

Yeah, take a solid inch of travel out of it. Don’t measure in “fingers”
