    Transition to 4th Gen?

To those fortunate owners who are planning to transition to the 24+ Tacoma, most of the parts you’ve added to your Tacoma will not increase the resale value. Many here on TacomaWorld would gladly consider purchasing those parts for more than what the dealership will give you for them.

Ok, now that that’s out of the way, how do you guys and gals like the new truck!?!

    My likes:

Looks – it looks great, shorter overhangs, aggressive, still configurable bed & body lengths.

Interior – color! She gains color, which many of us have to add ourselves until now.

    POWA! – up to 326hp & 465tq! Bravo!

    Disconnectable swaybars!

Wheels – she starts with 33s available, so what’s the largest stock? What’s the largest modified? YES!

    Compressor in the bed.

Dash – I like the full screen driver display.

    My dislikes:

Drums are dead - Sorry but as an ex-mechanic, drums have a lower cost of ownership & no, I don’t need more stopping power.

Seating position – once you’re use to the seating position, it fits like a glove – unless you’re some freak of nature that taller than 6’1”, that’s your fault & us normal people shouldn’t have to pay for that.

No N/A – I’m a little reluctant to go turbo & hybrid on a vehicle I’d like to keep for more than ten years.

Carpeted rear seats – when folded down. I like having the hard plastic.

No hand brake – went to electric e-brake. Not a fan.

Smaller rear seats – yeah…. they seem to be using some funny numbers there, I’ll believe my eyes.

Slippery bed – it was already a little slick, but I guess not enough of us are buying that bed mat that you all insist we buy so they made it slicker.

Price – I hate $50K+ for a small (oh, excuse me, midsized) pickup. Sorry, not sorry! Too expensive! $50,999, that’s it! Buyers, let it sit on the lot until they sell it for $50,999 or below!

Color – I don’t see my Lunar Rock…. What’s up with that? Pretty popular color to not offer, then again, it makes ours that much more special. It almost makes me feel bad about pin striping it in the woods, lol.

PRO seats – yeah, its gimmicky. Sell it to the kids and journalists……

So again, to those with more pros than cons that will decide to move on, part out then trade in. Thanks in advance.

I know Toyota is claiming 465'# of torque from the turbo 4 with the hybrid assist. That's a fairly large number from a t4.

6’2” 3rd gen user here, I’ll 100% be trading in if I fit in a 4th gen cab. I don’t know what you mean when you say fits like a glove, this is by far the worst seating positions I’ve ever been in. When my truck was my second vehicle I liked driving it, now that I’m daily driving it; I hate it. Yes hates a strong word but there’s nothing like a sore back after sitting in that cab for 2-3 hours of highway driving. Oddly enough 2-3 hours of off-road driving doesn’t bother me but different pace and different driving.

As far as expensive to repair, thats been getting worse every year. Imo, once the original warranty is up, all these manufactures want you to buy into an extended plan, same for these aftermarket companies pushing them, as having insurance. If buying a first year model, you'd likely be brain dead not to.

With the price of parts and fluids if dealer service packages are still being sold I’d likely get one this time around. I’ve been lucky on my third gen, I have the abilities tools and facilities to do it myself, that being said just taking the truck in and not being harassed for extra because all extra is covered would be nice.

I'm interested. But I don't think I'll swap right away. Interest rates are garbage, making it not worth the swap at this time, in my opinion.

yeah I’ll be holding out until 2026 probably. I got extremely lucky and have a trouble free 2016. That being said the first model year missed out on something that later became standard by 2018, the power sliding window. I ended up installing one myself.

I am on the fence about the 4th gen Tacoma. I bought new my 2016 Off Road and put 110000 miles on her. with some minor Issues over 7 years of ownership I like the why it drives. I will be test driver a 4th Gen but just might wait until 2025.

If I traded up wives like that every time a new model came out, I'd be broke and homeless by now.

I must admit that I am curious on other 3rd gen owners opinions on the 4th gen and also if 2nd gen owners felt similar to us when the 3rd gen was released.

I usually keep my vehicles for about 7 years, and I hope to keep my 22 for at least 10 years. I usually replace a vehicle the current vehicle is no longer cost effective to maintain, I choose the incoming vehicle by my needs at the time and the features I'm looking for (like adaptive cruise control). I like the new models but that plays little role in my decision, so unless my 22 gets stolen or destroyed, I dont see myself in another vehicle for a while.

I don't really care for the 4th gen. I haven't been researching it so I haven't been lured to its newer, better, stronger, faster, so much more ability that I feel I'm driving a manure wagon. I resist the marketing bs. I'll keep my shitty truck, thanks.

I agree with most of your pros and cons list. I was not surprised Lunar Rock is gone as the specialty colors are almost always a 3-5 year run. And as you said, keeps mine somewhat unique especially since I see very few in my location.
