Yes it is, its called a high railer. Basically a truck with train wheels front and rear so when he wants he just pulls up to a crossing, drops the train wheels, and takes off on the tracks.

He loves it, he has one of 3 jobs in oregon so its nice. Hes on 24/7 because he's the only one who answers the phone if they need help. Other people just dont answer ... lazy bastards  The RxR is in our blood, All my grandparents, aunts, uncles, all used to work for em. Benifits are the shit. Crazy good health care. For an ambulance ride its liek $50, doctor visits $5.

Good lord. I was planning on working there until fall term and heading back to school. I figure that would have been the best way to rack up $$ but my dumbass was lazy as like the other people who don't answer when they call :(. Hey you know any spots down there in your neck of the wood? Maybe we should plan a trip down there next month and you can lead the way..show us around the trails.

Man answering the phone is the best way to earn money. You could get called to do a 15minutes job, but you get payed for 3 hours at 1.5rate.

Their are a bunch of places that are off the beaten path even some out my alsea/monroe. BUTTT, having multiple rigs is a no go. Mostly private land so a few trucks are ok, land owners dont mind. But if theirs a bunch prepare for sheriffs to come a lookin. And those tickets are $400-$500.

Yea man, its a lot of road driving between spots since their not all close together; and only enough trails to occupy for 30ish minutes. But ill chat with some people here and see if i can get some gate keys :D Their are a bunch farther south near Lowell, and i could get keys to access certain areas their. But the odds of running on BLM land is HIGH. Thats a BIGGGG no no.

I wish the Taco Sport had a locker. They are such beautiful trucks with body color bumper, grille and scoop hood. I realize you could convert an OR to have those pieces but that's too much work. :D

I especially like the all white rig with the black rims. Kudos to whoever that belongs to!

EDIT: Just noticed the hideous decal in the middle of his windshield. I take his kudos back.

also, is there anyway for me to see on the surface if the auto place did a good job replacing my cvs other than if they just wiped away the grease?

How'd those guys end up being? Were they nice or a-holes?

In response to your question, did they charge you for brand new CV's or did they just repack your existing ones and install a new boot? I would think you'd be able to see new boots. Your boot popped off, so I'd think you'd definitely be able to tell if they fixed it.

i took it there on monday and they took both sides off to inspect it for me. he said that the inner and outer passenger side were busted and in the inner of the drivers side was ruptured pretty bad. so ive got my car there right now getting fixed. he said about $570 for both sides...seemed a bit pricey but he was a nice guy and they seem pretty cool.

i also thought they could just replace the boots, but i am not 100% sure on how cvs work but since its busted on the inside i guess thats why you need to replace it? i figured it was that or for them to cover themselves in case soemthing does break and they only replaced the boot.

Yeah, my understanding is that if you get it into the shop IMMEDIATELY after a boot breaks, it can just be repacked. But if you drive for a while, all the grease works its way out and the joints inside (if you've ever played with one, it really does feel like a human joint the way it can move around and pop in an out) rub against each other without grease. That causes damage and makes it way more likely that they will break. $570 is definitely better than you would pay at the dealership. Sounds like they have a nice labor rate built into that though. I think CV's run just over a $100 for each.

EDIT: I forgot about the fact that your truck is probably full time 4WD right? That will definitely make your CV's wear out a lot faster than Tacoma or FJ guys that can go into 2WD mode and keep their CV's from moving.

they gave me the option of a refurbished axle or a new one from toyota. the new one was only like 100, maybe 120 if i forgot, compared to a refurbished for 80.

Yeah, that's all a matter of preference. I like OEM parts myself so I would have gone the same way you did. Since they have to disassemble your front hubs to get those CVs out, there's probably like 4 to 6 hours of labor associate with it I would think. Depending on how fast they work. Let me know how it turns out. You will definitely be able to tell the CVs are new. If you're unsure, snap a picture of them and the guys on here will be able to tell you. :)
