Anyone else notice how much rust is on the underside of the trailhunter already?

Hopefully it results in a satisfying press, rather than a squishy button!

I first saw the link through one of my regular tech site haunts. Where it wins me over is the fact that there will be a hybrid version, where it loses me is the trend to make them larger. My wife drives a Hybrid 2021 Honda CRV and it gets 36-38 mpg. If I could consolidate my 2023 Kia Soul GT Line and my 2002 Tacoma, you'd expend some energy convincing me not to do so. I want my MTV to have music and rock, I want my Tacoma to be a true small frame pickup. I saw a 2020'ish Tacoma at a light, and right beside it was a late 2000's Chevrolet Silverado extra cab, and size wise I had a hard time calling one a small frame, and the other a large frame. If I want a Tundra, I'll buy a Tundra.

I'm so new to the Tacoma game (about a month now) that my opinions are worth as much as my feelings (zero) when measured against facts. My 2002 is so far a great truck, it is the correct size, although I see the value of a Crew Cab having just turned in my 2020 Ram Bighorn off of lease. Take my opinions with a grain of salt; you can't live without salt, but salt is not good for you???

I wonder if Tesla has something to do with that like they did with designing of the 2nd gen Vensa's. Or am I beating a dead horse???

The 4th gen tacoma is the same length as the 3rd gen from front to back. They extended the wheel base by about 4 inches, and the truck is slightly wider over the fender flares.

For all models, including the MAXs?

That would mean that the '24 MAX would have a ~6-month lifespan.

Someone should probably ask the engineer in that video if the QDR control he touts is better or the same as the Tundra, a couple of more engine failures added to the list this today...Maybe they got better people doing that at the Mexico plants.

    Here’s an interesting factoid series.
    • The hybrid version puts out 48hp electric
    • The hybrid battery boasts 1.9kWhr capacity
    • 1 Britt hp = 0.746 kW
    • 48hp = 35.8kW
    • 1.9kWhr / 35.8kW = 0.0531hr
    • 0.0531hr = 3 minutes 11 seconds
So… the moral of the story is that at full capacity, 100% efficiency, and full power draw, you get a tad over 3 minutes of umph for the electric side of the engine/motor combo. If you’re pulling half power, then a bit over 6 minutes, and at quarter power, almost 13 minutes.

All things being considered, real world performance will drop those numbers some. Actual demand will probably increase them a little. Sustained full power is pretty rare. For those towing in the mountains, I can see the battery being pulled down and drained. Having regen braking for the battery would be stellar, but I haven’t heard anything about it.

It’s going to be interesting to see the Ike gauntlet towing test.

<edit>. Looks like the tundra has regen braking so I assume the taco will too.

So am I understanding correctly that there is no V6 in the new lineup?

Well, then, it’s a sad day and the death of the Tacoma. There is no way in hell I’m buying a four-cylinder on such a heavy chassis. I watched the video,
and I don’t give a shit about them being forced to downsize. Between that, and the ugly screen on the dash.
they just lost me as a customer.

As far as the power plant and parts bin in the Tacoma drive train it's generally carry forward items tweaked and tuned for truck application, should be robust enough....as mentioned turbo is new to north America for Toyota but not their global stock. I would hope that for the 250 000 units @ average say (30k) they would not go all in with crap. Gotta have some trust

The Tacoma D-cab is way to heavy of a truck to put any 4 cylinder motor behind. All there going to do is stress the motor and kiss your gas millage goodbye...........

The current NA 4 cylinder I would trust more than the V6. Almost bought one for that very reason, needed more oomph though.

On the base motel truck ,it mite be sufficient enough, but on the heavier trucks and 4x4's no way
