wish I had something like this on my Tacoma, but you're a bit far away and I think my wife just might smother me if I buy anything more for the truck right now. plus, her theory is that my running boards are the same as rock sliders...o_O

I had the privilege of linking up with Ryan to do a CMC on my taco. While he worked we chopped it up; This dude is so down to earth, great family values and just a good all around man. The CMC turned out waaaay better than I expected and better than some others that I've seen from Big name establishments. I wish I would have know about his services sooner so I Could have got one of his rock sliders.. I highly recommend you hitting up Ryan for a CMC /rock sliders or suspension installs.

Go wheeling on a light trail, find a way to break your running boards, tell your wife you wanna go down to Disneyland and just make a vacation down here for the amusement park and a new set of “Steps” ;) ( that’s what we’ll call them)

Dude, it was such a pleasure meeting you. I really enjoyed hanging out and talking and getting to work on your truck. Your smile on your face when you were leaving not having to hear the tire rub the cab mount anymore was the icing on the cake hahaha! I really appreciate your kind words and your support for what I’m doing. Suuuuper nice to meet you man!

@Shmellmopwho, you obviously do a lot of suspensions. I assume you work on UCA’s on occasion? I’m curious if you swap the direction of the UCA bolt, when you put them back together?

I rebuilt my TC uppers today, and in the process damaged the AC line. That sucked! It was a beeach getting out, but worse putting back. Ended up reversing the bolt and removed the break line (?) mount, which made it so much easier to install.

The only problem that I see with putting that bolt back in the other way is gravity. IF!! for some reason that nut decided it was gonna come off, with the angle that the bolt goes in at, I worry about the bolt working it’s way out with repetitive pivoting of the UCA. Since there is no flange keeping the bolt in its place anymore, it is no longer guaranteed to stay put if that nut somehow came off. If the bolt is in the correct orientation and the nut comes off on the lower end, the bolt will have a much more difficult time traveling upwards and out towards the front of the truck. Is the way you have it coming out unlikely? Yes. Is it less safe than running the bolt the way it came from factory? In my opinion. Yes. If you were to drill a small hole in the end of the bolt and put a cotter pin there, so the nut couldn’t come off it would make me feel more comfortable haha

Good point. For what it’s worth, I had read somewhere that reversing the direction of the bolt was approved by Toyota.

It is approved, I have the documentation somewhere. But as Ryan said it's much safer to be installed in the original orientation. If it were my truck, I would want a small hole drilled and cotter pin at the end. And/or double nut.

Perfect! Toyota approved probably totally acceptable then. Just from a physics standpoint, gravity potentially wiggling that bolt downward and out is much more likely with the bolt being reversed. Strength wise, no difference though!

I assume you’ve done so many of them that you have it down to a science?

Anyway, just wanted an opinion from someone who does it on the regular.

    Thx.

    Haha I’ve done a few now :D

Glad you got everything back in nicely and your truck is drivable! Strength wise you’re totally safe but like @Superdave1.0 said, maybe throw an extra nut on their as a jam nut for safety

FWIW, I’ve had a UCA bolt back out half way that was installed in the factory downhill position. It’s not just gravity that would pull the oily out, heavy articulation on the trail will do it too. I always use blue loctite on my installs and have swapped most of the suspension nuts on my personal truck to nylocks.
