Turbo/Hybrid good for longevity and reliability?

Instead of getting emotional you could post some facts and data to support your claim that hybrids and turbos aren't reliable

 

Calling people naive, jealous, haters etc is over the line and you know it but please continue to show everyone here what you are made of.

 

You honestly think that having hybrid batteries and turbos doesn’t increase the odds of less longevity and a higher cost of ownership? You really believe that.

 

That's pretty sensitive but in context with the debate. I won't get personal it's not my style.

 

Your original post all thoughts appreciated. Now you say something like this and treating them like their opinion isn't plausible. If you post a thread asking for a debate how about not trying to shut down opinions.

 

Certainly don’t have to go back to the 80’s. Try less than 10 years ago. I understand Toyota and other manufacturers are being forced in this direction but that doesn’t mean people shouldn’t have concerns about the possible negative effects of that change. Not everyone buys a new car every 5-6 years. If you do you literally need to know nothing about vehicles. Just for the record I like most things about the 2024 Tacoma. Just have some reasonable concerns. That is normal. People blindly defending something because they are wishful thinkers is not normal. Not objective. Not the right approach for many of us. Hopefully you understand this.

There is no data on turbo reliability on the turbos on the 2024 Tacoma so the only way to formulate an opinion is based on past engineering and Toyota multi decade of proven reliability with turbos and hybrid systems. Yes engines can react different with a turbo. Toyota's advancement with variable spin turbos has yet to be known in it's vehicles. So far some recalls for the wastegate in Tundra systems maybe in others I haven't heard. But your data on the effects of turbos on Toyota engine reliability is welcome.

I work on a lot of Priuses. The ones newer than 2010 get oil changes and cabin air filters.

The ones before 2010 get coolant diverter valves, water pumps and sometimes batteries.

I've never lost a sale over the battery cost. By the time I see the car most customers haven't made a car payment in over 10 years. They're happy to fix it and keep it on the road.

That's been my experience working at the same shop for the last 16 years

Not that you would know but you happen to confirm the Kwh on the Prius hybrid pack. I posted 1.3kwh. That seem about right?

Jealous of what? I have owned Toyota trucks for 30 years straight. I am interested in the top two trims in the new model. Keep going. You are only digger yourself deeper.

 

So do you buy Toyota because of their inherent reliability?

 

I never said turbos/hybrid batteries were a total disaster but I do strongly believe they affect long term reliability/longevity and certainly an increase in cost of ownership.

 

The ones I have owned have been very good to me. Big changes make some nervous of the future.
