OP's complaint is the reason why the Tacoma is now a mid-sized truck, and why vehicles continue to get bigger. If the Tacoma doesn't fit your use case, the vehicle isn't for you. Find a bigger option, there are plenty out there.

It appears to be roomier. The wheelbase is 4” longer so they likely the stretched the cab a bit. The cab is also an inch or two taller and I believe 2 inches wider.

Here is are shots TFL back seat comparison.

The headroom is increased in the Gen4 this enabled the front seat to sit higher creating a little bit more leg room. The rear and front seats have more contour as well. All those changes give the Gen4 a little more room in the same size cabin (length and width).

    3350 wheelbase regular (,probably mm)
    3685 long bed wheelbase.

30 mm higher inside plus 30mm seat spacers with up/down height adjustment on all model front seats

Yea, wheelbase changed but the cab and bed dimensions are the same other than the height.

Look how much further back the seat is in the 3rd Gen. No way that's a fair size difference.

I saw the same thing but wonder if there was more room in the front with added seat height made up the difference?

Front seat is 30mm or 1.2" higher. That seat is like 5-6" further back in the 3rd Gen.

I wish. Use the B pillar as a comparison and you will see Gen 3 seat is further back. The increased space simply comes from being able to raise the front seat and the seat contours. You can see when they go to fold the seat flat you have to fold the headrest down (remove in Gen 3). If there truly was more room you wouldn’t have to fold down.

Lol this is a funny thread. If you need more rear seat room, just get a full size truck. The back seat in a taco isn’t supposed to be huge.

Yes I noticed that too. They claimed the seat was adjusted to the presenter’s seating position in both trucks.

IDK, I'm very interested in the 4th Gen and likely will get one down the road, but that video seemed a bit disingenuous. There was a bunch of stuff like saying the 3rd gen did not have a powered rear window.

Also, the Powered Tailgate is AIDs and hopefully can be avoided.

Power tail gate is weird. The thing will close on it's own. Power hatch on SUV and power sliding doors on vans make them difficult to close manually, who wants to wait for those things to automatically close in the pouring rain? Power tailgate might have a manual overide. How many folks have an issue with a manual tailgate? I'm sure there could be some disabled folks that might appreciate it.

Not to speak for others but I think this discussion is mostly for those of us who have kids or want to fit people in the back once in awhile, don't want to spend the money and don't need a full-size truck and all the baggage that comes with it.

Yep. I remember the time when I owned a 4 door Tacoma and only hauled my dog around. Now with 1 kiddo and another on the way, rear facing car seats are a thing but also my need/want to daily drive a mid size truck. Clearly the need was there if the 2024 model has more room in the back. Toyota listens

Grand Highlander seems like a good compromise, cooler than a minivan, great gas mileage, plenty of room for kiddos, people and gear.

For me, the formula is as such: Four doors and fits in my garage. My Taco has about 5cm to spare when the garage door is closed. So a full sized quad cab, as much as I'd love one, is out of the question. But as I get older... I do see a 4Runner in my future.

Which is exactly the way the DC Tacoma is setup now, and I’m guessing the 4th gen won’t grow much. My 3rd gen has plenty of room in the back for kids or occasional adults.
Hoping for the 4th gen cab to grow a bunch and have a bigger back seat is completely unrealistic. It’s a small, midsize truck, comparable in size to other midsize trucks. The back seat is nice to have, but if you really want a ton of space, get a family crossover or better yet, a minivan .
Arguing and wishing for a bigger back seat is completely unrealistic and pointless - ITS NOT GOING TO HAPPEN!!!
