Auto Stop - Start Which Trucks?

Not a fan of auto start stop

 

I doubt the MT will have it becausr it be a pita to have the engine restart from stop based on everyone's shift preference.

Unrelated, but I saw one of the models had a gas cap release next to the left buttons.

 

No, it works also when you punch it. You see both the boost and hybrid gauges light up and then you take off without clearance from the tower.

I test drove both Tundras, the regular and hybrid. The hybrid had the better stop/start and was a lot faster than the standard. I immediately decided that the extra $ for the hybrid was worth it.

 

Pushing a button to disable start/stop is slightly annoying but my guess is there will eventually be 3rd party solutions like the "always on ECT".

How many of you still push the ECT button every time you drive your Taco?

The wife's Bronco has this 'feature' and I've just learned to push the "disable big gubment annoyance" button every time I drive.

 

I was looking at a 2023 F150, looks like Ford trashed auto stop/start with a lot of complaints and to many customers by bypassing it or constantly turning it off... per the sales guy anyway when I asked about turning that shit off.

 

I wanted to hate on this feature the first few times I drove rental cars that had it. I didn’t really have a good reason for hating on it, I’m just getting old and sometimes grumpy and set in my ways. After a while, I realized it works a lot smoother than I thought it would and really wasn’t an inconvenience or annoyance at all and if it saves a little gas, it’s a kind of a cool deal. Doesn’t bug me in the least bit now that I’m used to it.

Does anybody have a better reason for hating on it than I did? Anything other than, “I liked it the old way… ain’t broke don’t fix it… and change is bad.”?

Our Rav4Prime is the same way. In fact, almost all the new electrical systems shown on these trucks are present in our XLE Rav4, aside from the Prime's 18kw battery. Toyota has managed to make the electric/power transition super smooth, and though I was initially looking at a different vehicle, the extra gas mileage the hybrid is going to get (guessing 22-24mpg?) is a significant improvement over my 2004 taco's 16-17.5 mpg.

 

Have you driven your Tundra in the summer with at least 100F external temperature?

 

He lives not to far from the Mojave desert. He probably already has or most definitely will.

I look forward to hearing about how great start/stop air conditioning is then. Until I see Toyota has that nailed, I’ll be a sideline skeptic. Too freaking hot in Texas.

 

This is something I've noticed with the Rav4Prime- the AC isn't immediately ice flecks out the vents like my 04 taco- it takes a few minutes to catch up, but after a few minutes it seems to be fine. Definitely assisted by the cooled seats. I assume the hybrids will use the same heat pump arrangement, but hard to say.
