Driving my less than a year old truck with 8K miles this morning and I hear this strange whooshing/hissing sound behind my dash. I pull over, turn off the AC and the sound is still happening. I then turn off my truck, and the sound is still happening.

Then I continue on my way to work and I start smelling this strong chemical odor. And now I have no AC.

I am going to the dealership tomorrow, but any ideas what could be going on here? I like to at least have some idea of what the problem could be before doing service.

Sounds like your AC system leaked out the refrigerant charge. Good thing you are under warranty.

I just rolled 6,000 miles and my ac has done the same exact thing as yours m5allen. Down to the freon smell inside the cab. What ended up being the issue and how long did the dealership have your truck. I'm just trying to figure out what I'm getting into. TIA

Sorry to hear about this - mine ended up being a fault evaporator. This is the part behind that dash that requires basically ripping out the whole interior. Luckily, it will be under warranty, but just the idea of having to rip apart a new truck didn't sit well with me. And through the process, the dealer service center scratched my tinted front windshield and a few of the interior panels. But they replaced/fixed everything. I was concerned I would have some squeaks & creaks after everything was put back, but I haven't experienced this and most important - the AC is working properly.

But come on Toyota - to have this kind of failure in a brand new truck!
