May need to buy directly from Toyota, although that is a bit pricey and I believe Toyota no longer supports SD cards for any model which could make things challenging in the future.

 

Thanks, I now recall the salesman telling me this. It is frustrating considering my circa 2013 $99 portable garmin, which I stuck on my dash, gave me traffic updates, and the 40,000 tacoma doesnt. Oh well, I still love the truck.

86271-0E074. I installed it no problem, but 1/4 way into my first trip using it to route me it would lockup. Tried many attempts to reroute same thing. Reinstalled my original card that came with my truck new (2018) and it operated fine.

I even updated the firmware still same failure on the fleebay card.

Not cheap but better than nothing. I will be purchasing one soon from a dealer prices vary shop around. I just like having a reliable backup when we camp sometime not always better than our phones.

Maybe you should take a long weekend, drive to the states and walk in and purchase an SD card
Hey, some of the parts guys if your polite, patient will give you a deal. Ive introduced myself asked for the guys name and simply said can you give me your best price. And whatever it is they'll generally try and do something for you. Here in the states the latest card is anywhere from 145-165. Good luck

 

I will be driving to south Alberta in June, and may spend a day or two in Montana/Wyoming. It would be worth the $145/if the update included a live traffic feature.

 

On your current map data base you need to look to see what areas are covered I may have mis spoke. When I get a chance I'll look at my maps to see if Canada is included

Thanks its a good read, been to the toyota site in the past few years, they have no new Gracenote update for my 2018 TRD OFF Road.
Got my notice from Dalton Toyota, in National city that my order for the most current map data base SD card has shipped. Fingers crossed this card has no issues.

 

I did check the area coverage for my current map card. If you go into the map data field it gives a visual depiction on coverage in the US and Canada. Never realized these SD cards are mainly for populated areas only looking at the visual depiction for Canada it does show east west and central,
Like Quebec ,Toronto, and the Vancouver, areas. I guess to really see I should plot a course to somewhere in Canada.

Made two trips both were perfect navigation, unlike the bootleg card from fleabay. Looking at how current it is 5/22. So,instead of being only 6-8 month lag it's now a full 12 months. Guess I should be happy with that. It wasn't cheap 143.00, beats relying on the counterfeit crap.

 

The head unit on my 2016 has just recently started beeping every time I start the truck. 5 loud beeps.

Would updating shut the stupid thing up?

i updated to 1790 from 1730. Only difference I've found is now I have the ability to turn the screen off. Couldn't do that with old version.

 

where do you access the maintenance screen? i don't think my head unit has this.

 

2020+ maps are updated with a Toyota issued USB sent to dealers once a year. The map itself is included with the subscription, but the dealer charges labor for the install time.

The map update procedure also requires the most current HU base software, they will charge labor for that too.

Had mine updated the month before the factory trial expired. Took them 3 hours, and that was with me providing the Toyota procedure from TIS upfront. Took them an hour just to find the USB drive, the only person who knew about it was off that day.
