Undercarriage oil based coating

Yea you have issues bottom does not seem to ever been coated. Inside your frame behind those plastic plugs should be some white snot still there Toyota did on a TPS. If nothing is in there then that truck never had it done and you need to do it yourself. As stated above use you the flavor of your choice but do it before this winter. I used fluid film and reapply each fall in areas of need. I also live in the rust belt and my undercarriage does not look anything like yours mine looks like new still.

Welds, rivets and weep holes tend to rust don't really know why. I sand blast and repaint them as necessary then apply a new round of FF. I cheat I own a lift.

you can also cosmoline I suppose, apparently one and done but I think it’s quite a dirty job and nobody seems to offer it.

Imo the NH oil seems too expensive compared to woolwax/krown or a diy FF

 

Prior to me buying my 2021 SR5 I owned a 2014 GMC Sierra double cab, in two years the coating on the frame had peeled away and exposed the frame to all the de-icers used up here in New Hampshire. The rust was sooo bad I brought it in to these guys and saved my truck. I wish I had some pictures, these people are ligit. I had the work done at their home base, it works better than you’d expect. It creeps, and gets into all the cracks and crevices. My 2021 will be scheduled this summer.

 

Got it done on my 2020 and got it redone this year. Works well. Mass Mobile Undercoating. For non-commercial vehicles that don't do a lot of fording my guy recommended every other year, and confirmed that it was still pretty good when I came in last fall. Basically the same idea as FF or Woolwax, slightly different preparation that doesn't smell like lanolin.

 

I have the fluid film ,corrosion 3000 and Cosmoline on a “test “ on the frame of a E 350 Ford van that I use for my part time retirement “job”.
The Cosmoline being way thicker is holding up way better than the other two at least as far as visual goes.
Of course it doesn’t flow into the seams as well either.
I have sprayed the three also as a “test “on the rear frame of our new truck also to see what happens to them over the summer before winter hits.
So far the corrosion 3000 is lasting way better than the fluid film in the side by side test but of course no matter what it looks like the two thinner viscosity treatments will need to be done at least annually.

 

Might be rustier on the insides of those boxed in frame sections . Too bad its not a new chassis, would have recommended doing it yourself with rp-342 cosmoline. It would only need minor touchups year to year after that. Right now fluid flim every 6 months to a year would go along ways preventing more rust.

 

Those pictures are not bad but its a good time to catch it.

I am personally a fan of oil/fluid based coatings even though they wash off. Cosmoline is amazing but doesn't flow into the cracks, and more importantly the pores of existing rust.

Whatever you do make sure they do the INSIDE of the frame rails. Frankly if that is ALL that is done it would be fine.

There is some good reading on undercoating in the “Bob is the oil guy” forum also especially where the maintenance guy is using the Corrosion Free 3000 on snowplow frames that are used to plow and salt Canadian roads.(post number 14)
He had great results in some of the harshest conditions possible.

The Corrosion Free 3000 sprays on clear and stays that way also as opposed to some of the others that are tinted .

 

My buddy does NHOU and Ive had it applied twice now. The one thing the oil has over the thicker stuff is the oil creeps!
It totally gets in between the joints and underneath and inside everything. They will also fog inside your rockers, doors, hood, tailgate hit your hinges batt terminals etc. The brine they treat the roads with today gets inside all those joints and voids so if you slap cosmoline overtop it just traps the salt and rust. The oil is constantly on the move and displaces that stuff as it travels.

Something to consider

 

Get some spray cans ,a case of beer and head north,I got a car lift in my shop.
We can drink the beer then undercoat your truck……

 

Cosmoline rp-342 is very thin, and does flow easily into any crevices. After 3 years here on our salty roads, you cannot find a rusty area on my truck.

 

Wire wheel all those rust spots then repaint them after that apply the protection of your choice. Your frame will be fine as long as you do something now to save it.

 

I'd wire wheel off any rust best as possible, and apply a rust converter like rustoleum sells. Once it cures you can then used a good black chassis paint. Once dry, apply a rust inhibitor of your choice. Imo, cosmoline rp-342 would work well also, and last a lot longer without doing the entire process over again like I use to have when applying fluid flim.

 

I agree with you on the Krown and they guarantee the price not to go up if you have it done every year. MIne will get done this fall again for the third Winter.
