G4 would've done better with the f150 2.7 Ecoboost. That truck hauls ass.

I only do 5K mi/yr so Hybrid doesn't mean much for me for gas savings. The extra 50hp when the hybrid kicks in is nice.

My 2021 ran a 15.5 91mph 1/4mi. The hybrid maybe 15sec flat if lucky?? 2.7ecoboost low 14sec and some even going sub 14.

I don’t think there’s a bad Gen of Taco. But, I’ll disagree with those here that have said the 4th Gen is all about looks. From the frame to the engine to coils to so much more, it’s FAR from just an aesthetic upgrade. Anyone claiming that is grossly uninformed.

The

“OK Boomer” is losing it’s bite, because the Mill/Z’ers that use it don’t really know how or when to use it. I’ve had youngsters throw me the “OK Boomer,” and I crack up. It’s “Gen X,” baby. A badass generation that interestingly enough went through the 80’s…the decade so many of them worship & wish they could have experienced. I fell right in the sweet spot of the 80’s…went to elementary school, junior high, high school, AND college in the 80’s.

Anyone who says “OK Boomer” in a derogatory manner is simply an envious ‘Generation Karen.’

 

Yeah I’m going to have to hard disagree there. As long as the new transmission doesn’t have any weird issues the 3rd gen did I think the 4th gen will be better. Not even getting into the increased power once/if tuners start coming out.

Gen-Xer here also. it’s funny, I was just thinking about how popular the 80’s are now with the younger generations, and how a lot of that culture (movies, etc.) came from boomers.

 

Agree, I’m even more hot on the Gen 4 than when I first commented to this thread, and especially now that the aesthetics have settled in.

The new model appears to be massive leap forward and better in every way …assuming they didn’t shit the bed with another erratic transmission.

Better road proven motor, better brakes, better suspension, better interior, better technology, better seat positioning, AWD option, hybrid option, and very likely a much better ride quality. Unlike the 2G vs 3G, I can’t think of anything that’s objectify better with the 3G vs 4G.

 

Unladen the 2.7 ecoboost is pretty good it does not have the low end torque of the 3.5 but I don't think it's necessary if you aren't towing anything. Both engines get up to speed effortlessly. The 2.7 in the Ranger is going to be a blast, the 3.0 in the Raptor Ranger is going to be something. Yeah EV is faster, but I'd rather have a lighter truck that I can maintain controll of, along with unlimited range.

 

I’m with you. And I wasn’t in on the new Tacoma when they first started leaking it a good while ago. First editions aren’t usually the ones to get, but I’m not waiting almost 2+ years for the updated refresh. And from my understanding, the engine is solid. It’s not a brand new unit. The frame and the seat height were two things I really didn’t like about Gens 2/3, with the gutless power bank being a third. Bombproof, yes. But just those 3 issues being addressed is a big deal. Hated feeling as if I was sitting on the floor while I drove. Not comfortable. I’ll get this 4th Gen first run model, see how it treats me, and if they have a refresh trade it in for the new one.

The engine was used in more than one application previously, and tuning is different. Seat height: It’s an inch and a half, and that makes a difference. They added more height to the cab, widened the vehicle, and the frame is light years better than the cheap crap they used in V 1-3. And if you’re just beach crawling in Florida or whatever, have at it & keep your previous Gen. Gen 4 called today & said it didn’t want you anyway.

I usually respond “ok doomer”, mill/z’s are the sky is falling generation, tell them the planet has been through worse than humans, try doing a little geological research.

Not sure why they are obsessed with the 80s, they couldn’t live 5 minutes without their smart phones. Came to age that decade, definitely don’t want to go back. Nostalgia is sometimes best left in the past.

We are all human, we all have our flaws, rather ridiculous generations blaming each other for the worlds problems, learn from our mistakes and move on.

Can’t say I want to go back to the 80s, grew up working my ass off, now I don’t have to so much. Life is much better now than it was then.

Heck, Toyota thinks 80s-90s extra cabs were better, talk about living in the past!
