OP is obsessed with the 4th gen being a dramatic improvement over the 3rd gen based on the release vids that don't have any testing whatsoever. I'm sure there will be upgrades but not as extreme as OP tells us about in multiple posts.

It would require leaving out cupholders, Ralph Nader items and the electronic wizardry of big screens, multiple music feeds, dual AC controls etc etc.

You like that big screen and air dam ? Don't think so, they look ridiculous and you know it.
I couldn't look at those for more than a few minutes less than 10 years.
And what does it look like with the dam removed, and gas mileage suffers.

Same here. The 3rd gen is a great truck, wildly popular and brought a shit ton of new owners into the fold, but the value proposition wasn’t that compelling for a lot of 2G owners.

This is the leap I was waiting for. An actual new platform and objectively better truck. Not a new front end, tailgate and interior with drivetrain change that is at best a lateral move.

It’s gonna be like 2005 all over again, where the new Tacoma is going to make the prior gen look like dated and pedestrian, but still prized for some tangibles and intangibles.

Many of us haven't even had one. Many more have only had one. I don't know what 'fair share' means, but it suggests you are not a long term owner. Yet you kept buying basically the same thing over and over.

They may have been different trims, colors and cab configurations. But the underpinnings are all 99% the same. So why re-buy something you find so distasteful? For those with a bucket full of discretionary dollars to toss around on new vehicles there are many other options to give a go.

And here you are raving about how hot something is that you've only seen on paper. It may be great. Or not. Time will tell.

In the meantime I need to check my trans fluid with it's dipstick and wax the jambs of my Access doors. Something 4th Gen owners won't be doing

"Drum brakes are more reliable guys! We don't want your rotors to warp!" (Drum brakes freeze solid in the winter)

"Leaf springs offer better progressive weight handling" (Essentially made out of rubber, invert if you use them for anything)

"HEY GUYS we got caliper brakes and coils now!"

By all means, get the 4th gen if you feel inclined, but I would strongly advise holding on to the 2nd gen if you can swing it. I think the 4.0 will be prized for a long, long time.

Less an inclination, my truck is 17 years old. It's close to being time. But yeah, the 2006 will stay in the family for sure. I have one young driver and one queued up.

did you listen to what those videos said? Dramatic drivability improvements, but yeah it’s me being obsessed with it.

we get it, you accepted the 3rd gen for what it is because you believe it’s some masterfully reliable vehicle.
Reality is, it’s far behind the competition right now and Toyota isn’t dumb- they knew the 3rd gen needed a major upgrade in the drivetrain and comfort areas and they seem to have nailed it. The 3rd gen was the worst engine/transmission combo I’ve ever driven in a truck

75k miles and I couldn’t even tell you where the CEL is on my dash on the dreaded ‘first year’ of the 3rd gen. Sluggish, sure I can agree with that. But I bought a truck. If I wanted to go fast I’d buy a car that is built to go fast. These complaints on the 3rd gen are so ridiculous on this forum.

75k miles is a baby, not really a great example of reliability - here’s my uncles Hemi

Cargo glory hole is amazing though. And the little steppy doors on each side are rad and sturdier than you’d expect. Gear tunnel is the euphemism.

Bingo! Was going to post basically the same thing! Give it a freaking rest already! We get it, but basing your opinion on influencer Youtube videos is laughable.

Actually I do like the big screen. You don’t… cool. My other vehicle has a large screen and it’s outstanding. I thought it looked goofy at first, and it does, but it helps you find things on there much quicker so you spend less time looking at it. No really a big deal because we could both get it they way we want.

You have to remember that if you add up every member of this forum and all the other Tacoma groups online, it would still be a just small fraction of all Tacoma owners. We bash on mall cruisers around here but the truth is most of these trucks will be driven strictly on roads and there’s nothing wrong with that. If I was never going to take it off road I would leave the air dam on, as millions of others will. Again, having it on there is a choice we all get to make. I’m not triggered by the looks of it but I’ll be removing it so it won’t get ripped off the first time I cross a creek bed or something.

And yes you will lose some gas mileage when you remove it, so what? It’s a truck. None of us are buying it for the good gas mileage.
